Haha you are a dangerous influence. Kidding, well kinda, because now that I see your quicksand in your picture I have been looking at 3rd gen quicksand threads for the last 15 minutes.

insurance sells the salvage to the junk yard and the junk yard will turn around and auction it off. My insurance doesn't have possession of the vehicle, the other party was at fault so their insurance takes charge and possession of the vehicle I guess. The junk yard is already trying to get me to sign and release the vehicle and the settlement isn't finished up yet :boink:

I'm quite sure they are, as they've seen your Taco and know what it's all about. Probably someone at the junk station has a Taco and wants your goodies cheeep.

So the adjuster working the claim finally got back to me after I sent an email requesting additional compensation for losing $7k of aftermarket parts that are on the truck.

They informed me that I did not have "Original Equipment Manufacture or Equivalent Replacement Cost" coverage which would have covered the aftermarket parts. However, they did tell me I can take out the audio equipment and the light bar on the bumper (not sure why only those parts). I am going to try and get the prerunner bumper off as well since the light bar is attached and it will be easy to take off.

I think I am ready to move on and just settle, so I will be taking the full settlement offer and be giving up the truck. I plan on retrieving my audio system and the light bar and prerunner bumper and will let the rest of the parts go, I think $20k for the truck is very fair. If I had the time to part it out I would take the truck back and part her out. I'll keep an eye on her and if I can get her back from auction for $3k or less I will bring her home and have a part out sale to hookup anyone here on TW.

If you are reading this and are interested in audio components, a light bar, or the prerunner bumper let me know asap. I am happy with the settlement and want to move these parts on to someone that can use them more than I can, obviously. I will make a for sale thread when I get the actual parts with prices and details and will post the link here soon.

In the mean time, if you are interested in the following let me know and make me an offer because I don't want to hold onto any of the parts and want to let them go as soon as possible. I am located in San Diego

    Parts:
JL Audio stealth box ( 2 10" subs)
    Arc audio mini amplifiers
    Alpine head unit
    32 inch light bar
    Prerunner bumper
    Stock speedway blue bumper

Damn man, it's a shitty situation but like you said I think the payout isn't bad. At least you can recover some of the simple stuff. I'd be interested in the stealth box but my wallet says I shouldn't.

Did the rear lift fall out on impact?

Damn son! That's was in scripps huh?
    Glad everyone is alright.
The salvage bid was about right @ 20%. Some cars it's even higher. But not worth it to hold onto it. Pull your stuff and move on to a new one

Pretty much same happened to the truck in my avatar. I was stopped and got hit by another driver going 55mph. Totaled my truck, but the insurance company let me remove everything but the lift- and only then because I didn't have stock components to replace it with.

If they don't provide $$$$ for the aftermarket parts- or even consider them in the offer, then you shouldn't have to give them up. If they add value because of the parts, then it should be in writing in the settlement offer. It's stressful, but you'll have to argue a little to get most insurance companies to listen. I'm no lawyer, but I have everything off of my Tacoma that I wanted, and the settlement was very fair in my case.

And BTW- If the other party was to blame, why on earth would YOUR policy coverage dictate anything? That sounds like a crock...

Since they are totaling it, can I have your struts/UCA's and your stereo system? :D

When my friend totaled my motorcycle with $2k in aftermarket parts the insurance tried to tell me it wasn't insured and I couldn't take the parts. I fought back and they finally paid me out for the parts. For the insurance company, paying a little extra to keep you as a customer and not deal with legal fees is usually the route they go.

I fought like hell when they totaled out my 99 yota. They only wanted to give me a grand at first. Fought with them for a couple weeks and got them up to 5500 and bought it back for 1000 bucks. Then resold the truck for another 4500.

Just be aware of the 3rd Gen's power and drivetrain. Test drive one sufficiently before getting your hopes up.

Glad everyone's okay from the accident.
