I gotta say it looks decent for a modern car. I am bias though as I like the Honda Element. It does seem to lack true off road characteristics. A lot of those features they have could leave you stranded in the bush.

Also the amazing reliability they have...

I guess it makes for a good grocery getter.

Exactly. The differences weren’t anything that I couldn’t replicate or actually beat through the aftermarket. “TRD OR loaded + $$$ in pocket” is the way to go IMO.

As we speak Toyota is deciding whether to continue offering a Land Cruiser or pull the plug.

Land Cruiser has been in continuous production since 1958, although the current version bears no resemblance to the original ones. The enthusiast publications are crying foul, but the sad reality is that Land Cruiser is a very slow seller.

One of the options Toyota is reported to be considering is bringing Land Cruiser back to its roots by turning into something closer to a 4-door FJ Cruiser.

Toyota hasn’t made a decision yet.

LR’s are like another any European car. They are great to own under the factory warranty. When it runs out you better have deep pockets to cover mechanical repairs. This is also when the the steep depreciation curve starts. If the manufacturers didn’t offer leases on European cars sales would take a nosedive.

    Like, so many.
I agree. This just looks so generic. Could be any luxury SUV.

Anecdotal story: Acquaintance's wife leased a new Disco for strictly grocery/kid hauling duties. (circa ~ 10 years ago or so.) Somewhere between 1st and 2nd oil change she smelled something funky coming out of the dash while on the freeway, and pulled over to investigate. A few seconds later the first flames were visible, and about two minutes after that the entire car was engulfed. They had to close all lanes of the freeway until the FD could get it reasonably contained. Brand new car and all possessions within burned to ash because of electrical short. Now thats what I call getting stranded with style.

I live in a ritzy area. The kind of place you see all of the dream cars. Yet, you almost never see a Land Cruiser.

You will howeve see these all day long...https://www.mbusa.com/en/vehicles/class/g-class/suv

This would be an awesome replacement. It would appeal to the USA Overland-bro market...which is probably just as big of a market as the luxury SUV market.

    Yeah.
I have a friend that works for the power company and has to be able to get to work in all types of weather. He always has a used Land Rover since they can be found super cheap, and he only has to depend on it at certain times of the year (snow and ice). I doubt he would ever try offroading it.

I would love one of these. But too expensive to import.
