I just found PowerAmp, and already feeling like I should buy it an engagement ring.

I had this problem a while ago with Pandora - I eventually stopped using Pandora because of these issues. I currently use Amazon Music and Spotify with AA and stock head unit without issues. To play music saved to my phone I have been using the Musicolet app and it also works great with my Pixel 5 and Android Auto.

I use Jet Audio which works well, I have allot of MP3s stored on the phone for when I can't stream Pandora, it's worked well for that. I get the best audio when it's plugged in, for some reason BT audio is noticeably worse when you compare the two (BT/Android Audio).

On another note, carplay will default to the last music app that was selected through carplay next time it's turned on. If you're playing mp3s via BT and you plug in your phone to the truck. It will play the same music through carplay but if the music app wasn't selected through carplay (manually selected on the phone and not through the CP screen) next time car play is turned on it won't remember that music source.

I have about 5000 songs on the sd card in my phone and I use Musicolet for the player. It's fairly basic but it's free and has no ads and after 3 years or so I'm very happy with it.
