I found that the sequence is important. Make sure that the phone is turned on, and plugged into the data port, before you start the truck.

I've tried connecting before starting the truck and bought the shortest data usb cable I could find(it was recommended here). My issue is the screen tells me my clock's time does not match that of the phone). It says I need to move my truck to a different spot so the GPS can recalibrate the time. I've tried multiple places with no success.

Also, the times do match so I don't know what that means?

    Welcome aboard!

I always start the truck then plug in the phone.

But I have a Pioneer head unit.

I'm having the same issue using the cable that came with my phone. I also tried having it plugged in before I started the truck and got nothing... did you buy a shorter cable?

Get a high quality cable from Amazon and you must use the USB that is under the radio, not the one in the console. I used an anker cable for years without issue.

Thanks, I knew to use that port. Just figured the cable that came with the phone was good enough quality.

The one that came with my phone did not work. It seems like the cables that come with phones focus more on charging speed than data stability. USB-C introduced some weird things with all the different standards there are for it. The only thing that stays the same is the connector. I’ve since moved on to iPhone for a bit to see how that goes.

Went ahead and ordered the Anker from Amazon. Thanks for the advise! Screenshot_20210710-110208_Amazon Shopping.jpg

It would have helped if I had a 2020 or newer. Lol! I guess Toyota didn't add Android Auto until then. My 2019 is lacking the neccessary equipment. :anonymous:

Make sure the port on the phone is clean.

This happened to me when I first got my 2020. My phone was 2 years old and had collected a lot of dust, even though it didn't look like it. I couldn't get Android Auto to connect, even after trying 3 different cables. It would charge fine; just not connect to AA. I asked a friend to plug in their phone and the truck immediately recognized it. I cleaned out my phone charging port really well (lint just kept coming out) and it worked. I've been using it with a cheap dollar store usb c cable since.

Give it a try before you go buying a new cable. Good luck.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
My AA fires right up regardless of whether I plug it in after the vehicle is started or if it is already plugged in when I hit the ignition.

The key is definitely to have a high quality data cable. The $5.99 USB-C cable next to the gum and beef jerky at the Walmart checkout aisle won't interface with Android Auto.

Maybe. The one from the dollar store has been working for me for over a year.

When my Taco is hot - like it's been sitting out in the sun all day - it will drop the connection to my phone a couple seconds after it has been plugged in. It will continue to do this until the cab has cooled down. Kinda annoying, but those chips don't like the heat. And, my cable may be a little on the long side. One the cab cools down, it's solid.

I am also having trouble connecting to android auto when I got the truck 5 months ago it was working perfectly, then one day it decided to stop, I tried a different cable it didn't work , and when I try to plug it is saying on my phone, connected but not charging and it's also not connecting to Android Auto, taking it into the dealer on Friday .

How did your dealer visit go? Can you try a friend's phone to see if it's your phone? Also, clean the charging port on your phone really good if you haven't already. Mine didn't look that bad but so much lint came out. Made the difference between only being able to charge the phone to actually use Android auto. Good luck.

It's a brand new phone compatible with Android auto, I don't think it'll be lint buildup I think it might be like the wiring harness came loose, because I tried it with multiple chords and it didn't work and then I tried those same chords in a different car and Android Auto worked perfectly
