I hate to bump an old thread but have followed the same steps (Anker USB, clean out phone's charging port, all settings I can find on the truck and in the phone's Android Auto settings) and still no luck. Phone will charge from the USB port under the factory headunit but will not initialize Android Auto. Did this ever get resolved? Phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+.

For me they just replaced the head unit also what happened with my phone would it would show that it detects the vehicle but it would not charge so when you plug it into the USB port it would show that it's charging but it's actually not charging I found this out when I plugged my phone in and then went to settings and went to battery. It would show that it's detecting the vehicle but is not charging.

Couple of other things you can try:

    1. Update your phone OS
    2. Do a hard reset of your phone
    3. Try the phone cable that came from Samsung
    4. Check the head unit thread for the latest firmware updates from Toyota, run those
    5. Take your cable and phone to another vehicle with Android Auto and see if it works there
    6. If a friend/significant other has an Android have them try in your truck

I relocated the USB plug to my glove box and noticed that the system is super sensitive to the USB cable, and especially length.

I had a 2' Alibaba adapter cable for the back of the radio, then a 3' panel mount USB female, then an 18" USB-C cable to my phone. It was flaky at best.

I ended up with just the Alibaba adapter and a 6" USB-C cable. Super reliable now.

My issue is intermittent. My 2024 Tacoma won’t hook up to Android Auto sometimes. But sometimes hooks up perfectly with no cable. If it doesn’t work, I reboot the Tacoma computer and usually it works. I think that it try’s to hook with Android Auto before it Bluetooth the phone connection. Sometimes it tells me it wants to send me a message when not working. I let it send message, open the app, and it tells me all “Connect” stuff is active. Only way to get it going is reboot Tacoma computer or, sometimes restart the truck.

I forgot about this thread until it popped back up. But, I can say that I have had ZERO problems in the last 2.5 years after finding the best quality high speed USB cable. It's been rock solid heat or no.
This is the one I bought: Amazon basics: 3-foot USB Type-C to Type-A 3.1 Gen 2 charger cable (AznB stuff is usually pretty good) Keep the cable as short as possible.

I'm running into a similar issue with my 2022 Taco Sport that I just purchased. Neither Android Auto nor Apple Carplay work despite the Apple Carplay working in my GF's Rav4. How do you reboot the computer in your tacoma? Does anyone know how to do factory restart?
