I've had this when first I bought it...the fix that I found solved it was:

Settings > Connected Devices > Toyota Tacoma Settings > Disable "Media Audio"

    Try that out.

(only do that if only playing music through the USB cable. If playing through bluetooth, you'll have to re-enable)

I'll give that a go but that could get pretty annoying. I use BT for quick trips and AA for long ones.. :quickdraw:

Update to the thread: I got the iphone 12 and i'm using some crappy cable that I had. No skips. And first impression of apple carplay is good. I was worried that I made the wrong decision, but after today I am feeling good about this change.

the other thing I miss about apple carplay.
You can have music, nav, and a 3rd item on display all the time. Andriod you can only have 1 thing up at a time. so music or nav. for me

My S10+ nor my S21 Ultra have this issue.

I would say you need to look and see what else may be running on your phone at the same time you have AA running.

I wonder if maybe there is a difference between JBL and non-JBL sound systems causing the issue. Like I said earlier, I had skips when I first started using it, but I was able to weed them out through changing settings and cables. I have the JBL audio, and I would assume you do too because you have a TRD Pro.

    Just a thought...

I do like that about Carplay, AA has improved recently by having the track info pop up now when a new track starts, but still not ideal.

Either way I spend more time using my phone out of my truck than in it. So switching to Apple is not a step that I am looking to take.

It's possible I imagine, but I feel it's unlikely. I've recently stopped using AA because the audio quality was not as good. I feel that the sub isn't used when I have AA running. Bluetooth punches harder than AA did, wired or wireless.

    My JBL was skipping.

I know what youre talking about. I think there was an update a few weeks ago because I noticed the subwoofer starter working more. I didn't have a chance to compare with BT tho.

I have had both Apple and Samsung (Android) phones. I can use and enjoy both equally. That being said, I firmly believe that Apple makes a better product. My Apple phones have ALWAYS been problem-free whereas my Samsung phones would suffer issues after a year or two of use. The battery would flat-out suck on every Samsung phone I’ve owned after a year to a year and a half. The advantage of going the Samsung route years ago was the price. It was always cheaper. Now I’m seeing Samsung phones go for north of 1100-1200 dollars. No thanks. I’ll buy a 600-700 dollar Apple phone every 4-5 years. My iPhone XR is over 2 years old and the battery is just as good as the day I bought it after heavy use. It connects and functions with my truck flawlessly.

But my JBL hasn't skipped at all.

And I mentioned low volume/quality with AA on here (TW) somewhere. Jamming out with Bluetooth, I usually set the volume to 40. With AA I had to set it to 45 and it was still lacking. I'm not the best with AA, but I know my phone media volume was maxed out, as I use Bixby Routines to do that and could see it was running. This was up until early this week where I finally gave up. I'll use it when I need it for navigation and the SD card in the headunit is outdated.

This. My iphone 7 lasted more than 3 years before I started thinking about an upgrade. On the other hand, every samsung phone by year 1 i'm looking to change it, but economically I don't want to.

Yep. I’m done paying a grand or more on a phone every few years. It’s ludicrous. The hype of having the “newest of the new” smart phone is dead. That kind of stuff was real hot 6-8 years ago. It doesn’t make any financial sense to spend that kind of money for something that becomes essentially worthless in 2 years time. I’m not into the Apple craze at all, but their stuff has always worked with zero issues for me. MacBooks, iPhones, etc...

i like to do the math when I’m done with the phone and sell it. (Original price paid - price sold)/months owned=cost of ownership (monthly). When I sold my iPhone 7 Plus I got maybe 300 and the guy sent it to DR to sell it there. Over 3 years I paid very little for the phone. It makes a $1000 phone purchase feel like a very good investment.
