Awesome, I think that would be a great way to control lights, without needing an ugly switch panel stuck to the dash.

screen mirroring doesn't send the touches to your phone. you would still have to use the phone to control the screen.

The device can screen mirror or just download the app directly to the device

wasn't talking about your device. the previous user that i quoted asked why not just screen mirror. there are a few screen mirroring devices and all of them require you to use your phone to control them and don't accept touch inputs from the stereo screen.

How well does it work with Android games and a bluetooth game controller?

Yes it does. You have access to the whole Google Play store. I've also inquired about a group buy discount once I have mine installed and do a thorough review.

When you do your review, can you please let us know the exact Android build used for the system? My concern is that many popular apps won't work very well on Ice Cream sandwich.

I believe it will be running marshmallow which I think will run most apps fine. PM me a list of apps you want me to test and I'll include that in my review.

Marshmallow would obviously be much better than Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean. Looking forward to the review!

I would only be interested if the cost was proportionate to the value. For me the $450 price cannot be justified without at least two generations of major Android updates and then security patches beyond that.

The problem is that Android is a computer OS, and Tacomas will outlast every computers utility by an order of magnitude.

Nothing against Android, or OP, I would not want to run Windows OS either.

If I were to do this, i would do so with the idea that the head unit would be replaced every 3 years or so and I cant justify that at that cost.

You still use your factory headunit. Android is patched in and they send firmware updated to the limit of the hardware.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but am I to understand I'll still see the compass, tpms, gps directions/speed limit indicator, music player, etc all on the center screen in the gauge cluster?
