I have a 2008 DC 4x4, and I have an insanely annoying rattle/squeaking noise coming from the plastic pieces surrounding the shift knob. Some days it never happens, some days its loud as heck and constantly snapping and popping. I think it happens when there is a big temperature differential between the under side of the truck and the cab, but it seems pretty random.

Can that whole area be disassembled and re-worked (glued or shimmed) to get rid of the noise? It is driving me nuts!

Yes. I use Ensolite which is a stick on foam to reduce noise. There is no real instructions as it takes a lot of effort to hunt down rattles. Good luck.

Do you just pry it up and insert the foam between the segments, or have you taken apart all the plastic pieces around the shifter?

I took everything apart on mine and added Raamat + Ensolite to all the interior plastic parts I could take off. It helped a lot. The entire truck is sound deadened and its worth every penny.

Any advice or good threads that show how to get it all apart, or did you just start prying stuff off until there was nothing left? I haven't had my truck too long, so I'm still learning the ins and outs of it.

Can anyone give me some direction on taking the area around the shifter apart? Is it just prying stuff apart, or is there a more elegant way?

Most everything is held on by plastic clips with this truck. There are write up's on this site if you search for them. If I remember the trim just pops off.
