    Who??

Is that the guy who drinks Dos Equis from time to time?

(Maybe this is why I never started smoking; I never heard of the Wheelbarrow man. Was he a real cool cat that promoted the benefits of smoking?)

My wife and I quite cold turkey at the beginning of the year (Jan. 1st) and never looked back and we're saving a shit load of money. I smoked a little over 10 years and she smoked about 5. It was a bitch don't get me wrong but I was just OVER it...I couldn't even finish a cigg without putting it out...I was just DONE!...I still want one every now and again but the urge only last's a few minute and then it dissipates. I smoked about half a pack a day and she smoked about a pack because she was in the Nursing Program and would smoke while she studied and such...So glad I quite man. An now I can't hardly stand the smell of the fuckin' things...I can smell one a mile away...even when I drive past a car with the window down. It made me feel bad for my non smoking friends...But I was respectful about it, I'd walk away and come back when I was finished

We were spending around $2,000 to $2,500 a year JUST ON SMOKES!!!!!! Can you believe that!!!???

    We smoked Camel Lights

the dos equis guy is the "most interesting man in the world". the one from those funny commercials. . . my stupid joke at the end was about the marlboro man. he was a marketing campaign for the marlboro cigarette brand of the phillip morris company for many many years (before US federal law made huge restrictions towards cigarette advertising). i think there were around 4 different marlboro men. in the ads he was smoking marlboro cigarettes, encouraging macho men to smoke and to be cool like him. . . i think it was a time magazine article that revealed him to be the most influential person that never lived ( because cig sales shot up) . . . . . . im from NC, there's tobacco fields everywhere, it's our cash crop, big business here. you learn this kind of stuff growing up in this state (one of the main reasons for the cheap costs and high use).

My doctor told me I had cancer,. I quit on the way to radiation therapy, tossed my smokes out the window. Two packs a day for twenty years, to zero, cold turkey. That was nine years ago. It was as easy as breathing.

yep. for a popular media reference, there's a seinfeld episode where kramer goes to sue the cigarette companies but takes a buy out where he is used as the marlboro man on a big ad in times square.

18/26 of those who say they have quit (who voted in this little poll only a few hours old) say they did so cold turkey?! WoW! I find this really impressive. I can't imagine how tough this would be.

Typically, there is a very low success rate with CT method. But then again, stats tend to lie when you are using them to sell stuff.

The most brilliant part about Chantix/Champix is that (IF you can take it, and IF it works for you) it makes your most recent smoking memories/experiences negative (or at least NOT positive) experiences.... MUCH like taking the orgasm away from sex... Would you keep performing the act without the reward?? ... Which is why this method (Chantix/Champix) has better staying power with respect to reduced relapse rates long term.

[Again, I do NOT work for Pfizer Pharmaceutical, although I have owned their stock since Viagra was brought to the market]

If you are at all serious about quitting, Chantix/Champix reduces the importance of willpower in the process. Go ahead and light up all you want, as long as you take the pill twice a day, you will get frustrated and put the stick OUT before you are half done. Ok. Commercial is DONE. Go ask your doctor or pharmacist about it!

If this thread gets to 100 smokers declaring spending (truthfully) and 100 quitters voting for (all) their methods of success, I would guess that the majority of smokers spend OVER $2000 annually, and that a much higher ratio than 18/26 have used some kind of help to quit successfully.

Would love to read some more success stories... including what you did to your Tacoma with all the money you have been saving!:)

I quit smoking "analog cigs" about a year ago, but switched to vaping for a healthier nicotine substitute. And by vaping, yes I mean electronic cigarettes. I have gotten about 10 people to switch and everyone feels great and healthier.

So yes, I say I quit smoking, but that I do vape. I didn't/don't intend to quit the nicotine, but I switched to a healthier habit.

Sure did motivate me. I don't know if I could have quit. I do know it would not have been as easy. I am so much happier not smoking for all the reasons you can think of. Being a slave is no way to live.

Really, the money was just a small reason but a good one. I hate not being able to breath. Anyone who thinks it isn't killing them is dead wrong.

Good for those of you that are trying to stop smoking! I stopped 3 years ago after 30 years of smoking (I know that makes me an old guy) when I quit cold turkey. I would suggest you read Allen Carr book on quitting and adopt an attitude that you are not "giving something up when you quit smoking" .... "you gave something up when you started". You gave up your energy, your health, fresh breath, money, etc.. Good luck and keep trying to stop. Studies show that very few succeed on their first attempt ... you have to try a few times.
