Take clean air breaks at work if you think you can resist the temptation to bum a smoke and light up. My friends would go out to smoke and I would take a 'clean air break' with them. In a way it made it a little easier because I still got the social aspect of it.

I used to chew a bag of Red Man a week until I quit cold-turkey this past April.

Now I'm running a $10/week sunflower seed habit!! Red Man was only $6.95!

I have a sunflower seed addiction too. I keep a bag in my center console. David sunflower seeds are the best.

As far as smoking, never smoked a single cigarette in my life. It think it's disgusting and vile. A girl who looks like a perfect 10 quickly drops to a 0 when I see her light up. Yuck.

    When I was 18:
1-2 cans of dip a day - Grizzly Wintergreen or Skoal Citris

1 Pack of Camel Wide Filters. Daily.

Quit cold turkey. For two years.

I'm smoking again. Pack lasts me about a week. Usually just smoke a few outside in the car port each night or if I go somewhere alone.

I've smoked on and off since i was about 16. I quit about a year ago, after coming to the realization I was simply smoking too much even for MY own liking. I was at a pack a day minimum, some days I would go almost 2 packs.

I remember the crystallizing moment for me that I had to quit was when I jumped into my car and there were no fewer than 5 empty packs in there. I just had a "@*ck me" moment and decided enough was enough.

I used chantix, it worked extremely well for me. Also changed my lifestyle around. Was never overweight but my cardio/overall fitness level was bad. Got serious about fitness, started walking, then jogging, then running.

I just ran my first 10K last month :)

Not going to lie though, I used to love smoking, and if it was going to kill me eventually, I would still be smoking. Helll, I could see myself smoking a cigarette right now. LOL. But quitting was one of the best choices I ever made.

I'm still smoking, but I just moved down here in Sacramento, and I feel like I might be able to quit down here. It was so hot the other day I didn't even feel like standing outside in the heat to smoke. I think I had 1 cigarette that day. I've quit for weeks before, but everytime I go back to work, theres always 'smoke break' lingering over me. By all means I'm not a heavy smoker, takes me a couple days to go through a pack sometimes, but I still smoke nonetheless.

I tried somewhat replacing it with dip at one point in time to curb the cravings but the dip just didn't do it for me, idk. Maybe I'll try the seeds.

I quit when I met my wife. I could tell she was a girl that wouldnt put up with it and I will tell you she was worth it. Quit cold turkey. There have been some hick-ups but nothing sustained. Although I did gain some weight at least now I dont get winded walking up steps.

Quit 14 years ago. Used the gum. Never picked up another cigarette and I had been up to almost 2 packs a day. Feel so much better!

I never really smoked. I dipped for about 8 years. However, I believe that this website is a much bigger hinderance on my wallet than smoking ever would be. I think I'm averaging about $200/month on my truck since joining! :annoyed:

My mom smoked pretty heavily while we were growing up. For me, it was a good incentive not to start. Later in life, my ex-MIL developed emphysema. She was a life long smoker and one of the coolest people I've known-we were with her the day she died and that's something I probably won't forget.

From just after her diagnosis and until she died, she was dependent on an oxygen generator or a bottle for the occasional trip out (her fear of running out of O2 kept her home a lot--which was a real shame since she was very active until her diagnosis).

I don't smoke so I can't tell you about quitting. I know about the end of a life with emphysema and I can tell you I would not wish that on anyone.

Been ripping a pack a day for 30+ years and I know it's time to call it quits for me and my family. Anyone have a hook up on chewing gum?

Seriously, read the book "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr... it is an amazing book and may make quitting positive and easy for you.

I smoked a pack a day for 11 years. I "quit" about 4 months ago.. in the last week ive been slipping back and having 1-3 a day.. 0 on some days.. need to get back on track.. quitting has been liberating and great, i still miss it sometimes but know i dont gain anything by doing it and am mad as hell at myself for being so weak this last week..

    edit: holy thread resurrection
