I smoked a pack aday from about 16 to 34 years old so 18 or so years of smoking. My quit date was March 24, 2010 2+ years ago and I have not had a smoke since. I used Chantix and I would recommend it to anyone. I had previously quit cold turkey several times but it never lasted. Its not easy I still want a smoke to this day. I have previously quit and I know all it takes is one. I would say the first 3 months are the hardest but after that you stop thinking about it as much. Also if I remember correctly Chantix has like a 50% success rate on people that quit and never smoke again.

The best part is I will probably live longer :D save money and I dont burn up my vehicles with cig burns and smells. You really don't notice it when smoking but non-smokers can really smell a smoker a mile away. If any one has any questions PM me I will be glad to answer or help.

I tried chantix too... Don't get me wrong it's good stuff for sure and if I had taken it for 9 months like they wanted me to I would not have started smoking again but I had so many side affects (the worst was insomnia mixed with night terrors) made life unbearable for me.. Not everyone has the same side affects though and the stuff truly works.. I'd recommend buying the 7$ book first and if that does not make you want to quit then make the investment on chantix and stick to it.. Then you'll be done for sure.. Just remember you're not "giving any thing up" you're getting back what you lost when you started smoking...

Today is my second day without a cigarette, and it's driving me nuts. :p Trying to quit, but I don't really want to- I'm trying to do this for other people. I've only been smoking for a little over two years, since I was 17, but that doesn't make it any easier than if I had been smoking for 10 or 20. It's become habit- one when I wake up, one when I leave for work, one when I get to work, several throughout workday, one at lunch, several more throughout rest of work day, one on the way home, a few more before dinner, and a few between dinner and bedtime.
And smoking is the only bonding time me and my Mom get. I'm always at work- I'm rarely home for much longer than it takes to share a cigarette with her. Really, I'm going to miss it because it means missing time with Mom.

I second this. I think I posted about this earlier in the thread but the book is LIFE CHANGING. I smoked for 9 years and quit cold turkey. It has since been almost 5 years since my last cigarette and that was the best 8 dollars I've ever spent! You have nothing to lose (Even if you don't quit smoking, you're only out the 8 dollars for the book and minimal reading time) and EVERYTHING to gain.

Well it will never get any easier than now. I smoked for 16 years I sure wish I had all that money back. Probably close to 20 grand maybe more. That is a nice down payment on a house. Either way if you have made it a few days you are almost through the hard part. After a week it gets a lot easier a month even easier and so on. Think of it like this if you continue to smoke there is a vary high likelihood that it will kill you. Why would you pay a company for a product that will shorten your life and kill you. Hope you succeed.

Can a day habit since I was 15. Quit December 2010 with the help of Chantix. It helped a lot.

Luckily the only side affect I had was night terrors from Chantix. Didn't put on Amy weight either.

I enjoy smoking and have no intention of quitting. Don't really care how much it costs. It's something I enjoy. Don't drink, don't do drugs, and don't party excessively, so save my money there. Also earn enough to well afford the things I do enjoy.

Finally, the risks are minimal. Getting up and going about the day probably poses a far greater risk (vehicle or job accidents, etc), but that doesn't stop me from doing that either.

    My House Usually
Been rolling our own for longer than a month now.

Savings are incredible. A bag of tobacco costs $8.00. A box of tubes (250) costs $3.00. Said bag will last both my wife and I at least a week, usually a day or so more than a week.

Costing my wife and I...less than $15 a week to smoke versus, at least $80 buying packs of name brand.

There was an initial investment of the actual cigarette machine, runs about $40-50 depeding on where you can find it.

Do have to "roll your own" so time is needed for that. Mostly slamming them out in the evening after kids have gone to bed and we're BSing for the evening anyway.

Everyone knows the dangers of smoking. If they still light up so be it. I don't understand how smoking is viewed in the media, washington,etc.. as the biggest detriment to man but yet alcohol is accepted everywhere you go. Nascar won't allow tobbaco sponsors anymore but beer, whiskey etc..is just fine with them.

I went way off the top..pack a day at $8 a pack in MA. I started when they were $1.50 a pack 23 years ago and always said I'll quit if they hit $4 a pack.

Might try to quit for New Years, not sure. I don't personally want to do it, and that's what's making the decision hard. I just want to quit so maybe my Mom will. I've cut down considerably the past few months, trying t quit- I went from a pack a day to a pack every three or four days. Getting better.

You're young and the sooner you quit, the better it will be for your body long term. Quitting for your mom is admirable and I'm sure she would appreciate it. In the end though, if you're going to quit, do it for you.

    Good luck!

I quit cold turkey almost 8 weeks ago.
However, when I did smoke, math tells me I spent about $930 ish a year.
I have a lot more money to spend on guns, ammo, and truck parts now. :)
