Spot 23 is the group site. Looks pretty sizeable, honestly. I don't know how much shade there would be in the spot though. That would be my only hesitation.

    Well, considering that
    1. We will be out wheeling instead of sitting around in the sun (Sun? It's Oregon. HA!), I don't see that as a concern.

That's the thing. My tread is getting down there now - I'm guessing I have maybe a year left of wear. Average depth is 7-8/32nd. I only off-road a couple of times a year - this is my DD. But damn they look sexay!

I e-mailed Jahmaal Rebb about it, and he has forwarded my e-mail to the recreation coordinator who oversees the group sites. When he gets back to me, I will give you all a run down of the information that is presented. If we can secure the group site, that'll save us from dealing with lack of latrine/water/actual firepit issues we had last year.

Good job stepping up Brady. That'll make things easier for others to not have to figure everything out. :kona:

Back to my tire rambling - I've changed my mind based on a coworker's input. He used to work at a stealership and does his own offroading. I'm going to go with GY Wrangler Duratracs. They're cheaper per tire right now, plus $100 rebates in VISA cards, better rated, and should be quieter on the road. So win, win, win, win. (Winning!)

    Done.

Provided that everyone is chipping in properly, I only worry about parking. I can't remember if you can leave vehicles overnight at the Brown's staging or not.
What sort of back-out options do we have with the group site if we don't decide to take it, after the reservation is placed?
I can't recall what spot 23 looks like, I only remember the loop, the day use, and spots 24 - 29. I'll make it a point to research the spot, I may find time on Sunday.

    @Haslefre

For most years except I think 2-3 we have stayed in site 16. It's got the large gravel pull in next to it. It used to be our usual spot, but the last few years it's been full Thursday if not sooner.

Right, but in the 2 years so far I have done this, we have been under 8 vehicles. This year, we seem to be pushing 20 vehicles. I know we usually start at double what actually shows up, but even with half the list we are going to be packed into 16. So if we can manage to get #23 and then whatever other camping spot that may be available when we get there, we should have enough room.

Since there's supposedly going to be a bunch of new people, I'll try and remember to dig up those sticky name tags for at least the first day, unless that seems lame. But, I suck at names so I need all the help I can get.

if you read the letter of the law, anything involving 10+ vehicles constitutes a sponsored event, but I don't understand how that doesn't apply to family camp outs then :boink:
The PDX group is sorta kinda still TW, but you are right in that we have more than enough people.

Was shown this link this morning... I might come around and scope this out! Not sure about trails at this point, the truck is mostly stock and I've not gone off-roading before! BUT it'd be fun to scope it out and see what's up, maybe have a go. I've penciled it in as a tentative possibility, it does sound like a ton of fun.

There's plenty of roads and easy trails to drive around on that a stock truck can do. Beautiful scenery out there, plus the camping, and food, and the people. There's other people that will be doing the green (easy) and blue (little harder) stuff from what I'm seeing on the list, so it's not like you'd be left on your own to drive around.

Thanks for the head's up. I'm going to have to work that Friday, but I'm off on the weekends so I might cruise out with the other peeps on the Saturday! It definitely sounds like something I'd like to do, and it sounds like it's an annual thing you guys do?

Yup, this is the 7th annual. There's other informal runs out there as well through the year.

What does everyone else think about capping the roster at this point? @DontTouchMyTaco would be our 18th, not sure we need to stretch to 19+
