Mistake #1. Letting HS kids touch your truck. #2 Our transmissions don't have filters. We have a magnetic screen that can be cleaned off. #3 When they reinstalled the pan did they allow the FPIG to dry overnight?

    Here's what they should've done.

    Drain fluid.
Remove bolts (10mm) holding pan on
Use a rubber mallet to separate pan from trans
10mm bolts hold filter to trans
Clean old FPIG sealant from pan and trans
    clean an reinstall filter/magnetic screen
    Clean pan
Clean magnets and place back in pan
    reapply new FPIG to pan
carefully position pan and start reinstalling bolts
evenly tighten bolts working from center to corners.
    Don't know the torque values
Allow sealant to dry overnight. A 500W halogen worklight may help
    Refill with trans fluid.

If they just drained the pan, it only takes around 4.5 quarts or so. You will need to pour in whatever drained out. If they flushed the entire transmission it will take around 15 quarts or so.

The first thing I would do is check the transmission fluid and check the level.

ummmm no on the drying and as for the filter or what ever I went to auto zone and they gave me what they called filtter now it may be low on oil cause they couldnt tell how much to put in because there books would say stuff like 1.5 to 2.8 quarts... so I think I should start with double checking oil level... and calling auto zone to see what the hell they sold me...

how bad did they miss up on not allowing to dry over night I think they got it all done in like an hour or 2...

Jesus! That sucks! I remember when I first went on this trip last year, I had my oil changed at jiffy lube and my truck acted all funky as well.. Missed the first part of the run :(

no not really ... I mean I got them 3qts cuz most of the info we found called for less than 3qts or a full 15 so for what they did 3 should of been enough....

The seal has to dry overnight. At this point just check the trans fluid and figure out what they used to seal the pan. If the trans fluid is low add more fluid and see how it reacts. If it runs smoother and it doesn't leak then I'd assume your truck will be fine. If you have any doubts about your truck, please do not hesitate to cancel this trip. We'll be in the middle of nowhere with limited/no resources and you'll have to be towed home from the middle of the desert which will probably cost you over $2k to get home. Moreover, a major breakdown can delay this trip for everyone else. I'm not trying to be a dick but it's important your truck is running at full capacity without any limitations. You can join us on the fall run.

If you need to meet us Friday night, Will (Fixed TRD) and his brother are meeting us at camp at night. They're not leaving LA till about 6pm. You can meet them in Barstow and caravan with them. Our campgrounds are not far from the highways.

Jesus sounds like fluid is low if you fluid is good maybe the filter is clogged or put in incorrectly. I'm not familiar with transmissions but a good buddy of mine told me about a ball valve that can get popped in the wrong direction. Which makes the tranny erratic. I'm not sure if this valve is where the filter is but if there is a ball valve there make sure the ball is on the correct side
