Yes, Toyota called for all those parts, I'm sure it was to find the cause.

That's what I hoped to learn through out all of this. Toyota saw, examined, found and adjusted. I also hoped to learn if this was something we could/can avoid. I again thank you for chiming in!

My truck is still in surgery. I figure a few days to process the protocol the tech needs to go through. I figure about mid next week I'll get a call and I'll be starting over with breaking in a new engine.

Given it's near end of life for the 3.5, I'm not seeing Toyota fixing the issue without a class action forcing their hand.

You may have missed my update.. They know the issue and are repairing. You don't see this post 2020 (inclusive). It's the valves on #1, #3 or #5 as I been told and learned (so far).
Another has posted that he's driven to 135K after repair around 40K was done. I just read another here that has done very close to the same with no further issues. Toyota has a handle on it!

Not worry unless you are far out of the warranty range, yet then is not when it seems to occur.

Exactly, All the ones I have done were right at the end of the 5/60 warranty period, but still in warranty. I have seen several with over 180K that have not had any issues. It seems like they fail under warranty or not at all.

Haven't ran into that, YET. Hopefully it is a small number of engines effected.

Curious about the engine build year.. I read of two, but both were 2019 engine builds. Serial numbers... This actually first I've heard of #6... You have someone I can contact on that? I'm curious..

I'm not confirmed on the firing order or cylinder placement (drivers/passenger). I'm assuming 1,3,5 are a bank & 2,4,6 is the other. If true, have you seen/heard of an issue on the 2,4,6 side?

You are correct about cylinder numbering. I have ONLY seen it on 1,3,5. But there could have been some with 2,4,6. On the older 4.0, the heads came from different builders. That's why one head had NGK plugs and the other Denso plugs. It could be the same with the 3.5 heads. But they all have the same plug in them.

Add another to the P11EC list. 2018 SR5, 58k miles. Built in Baja California. Service advisor knew right away what it was when I told her what code I pulled. Two others ahead of me in the shop for the same thing. She estimated about a month turn-around to replace the head. Lack of qualified tech's to do the job was the issue. New head was ordered Saturday. Covered under warranty. Judging by her reaction and what she told me it's something Toyota is seeing a lot more of in the 2018 +/- model years. Whether I keep this truck or trade it, I'm not sure. I just added a some mods and I still have the balance of 100k extended warranty if any other issues pop up.

Hey there! I'm up in Auburn, NH! Mine is also a Baja build, yet until my truck comes back can't chase the factory of engine build. Not even sure how relevant it is any more, yet we should know. Thank you.
Where did you bring yours in? I brought mine into Manchester, NH (IRA). Service 'Advisor' had no clue.. Tech told me his first, yet the seniors third (mine). All the parts were boxed right there in front of my truck. The tech told me he has a set procedure for the issue. That made me feel much better that Toyota knows and has procedure set to remedy.

Ya... I was also debating if I would keep or move on. Looking like keep! Be interesting as this continues how I can work an extended warranty due to this experience. I know others have picked up another year.

I've read it's a 24hr job to replace.. a month seems long! Very curious who has/had your truck!!!

You seem to be the guy to ask! What's the book say the Head/Valve replacement should take?

Mine's also at Ira. Dropped it off last week. Service advisor (Jenny) knew right away what the code meant. Mine was 3rd in line for repair with only 2 techs qualified to do the job. Having a set procedure for the issue tells me that Toyota is well aware of the problem. I may have inadvertently opened the door for a month when I said to her I had read that time frame on forums. She initially said she couldn't give me a time estimate but called me a day later with the month estimate. Not a huge problem but I need a 4wd for an upcoming trip to OBX. She hasn't returned my call requesting a rental. I'm leaning toward keeping it only because of the extended warranty.

Same. I bought this truck because of the Toyo reliability and I had one many years ago. I thrashed that '86 SR5. It was bulletproof - until I hit a tree, HA!
