I have a question and would like to learn more about this. When you say "Valves!", what specifically is the issue with the valves?

Also, do you or anyone know if Toyota has fixed the issue with the valves on newer trucks? Thank you.

Mis understood I guess. Thought you were headed to Overland East. It's a gathering of 4wd enthusiast's that drive off the main roads. OBX I've never been!
Only 1 mechanic doing the deed right now. The other is still out (as of Tuesday anyway). It's near impossible to just call in as I learned Monday.. Going there is a pain, but works..

Can't tell you exactly what the issue is, as in seating, warping, etc.. Model years have been only 2017-2019 (with one here stating 2020). I have no heard of anything beyond that period (relating to the P11EE or other cylinders). Strange it seems to be an issue only on the Bank 1 side (again 1 here speaking of a Bank 2).

Toyota knows what it is and has in place the sequence of repair. You're in a 2022 and well out of the year range of this issue.

They used the words "burnt valve" to me. As in: the valve was not seating properly and the hot gasses blowing by when it was supposed to be closed burnt the valve material, slowly worsening the problem until the compression was bad enough to trigger the code and engine stumble. So either a defect in the head or the valve I guess. If it's a recurrent issue in one bank seems more likely to be a head manufacturing defect? I'm not a mechanic. This is how it was explained. I have no way to know if this is correct or bullshit.

Were you able to confirm something changed in the newer trucks?

If not then the reason you aren't seeing any failures on newer trucks is likely just because there aren't enough cumulative miles on them yet. Again, just a numbers game.

There is no proof that 2021+ are solved. They may be, but many of them are low miles. Look how long it took for the issue to pop up in the 17's. More and more of these will pop up as the years go by, we will see if that ever includes a 2021 or later and so far it hasn't, but doesn't mean that confirms them as safe.

Exactly, there is a 2020 that popped up, as miles progress I'm guessing will see some more, is it widespread and what Toyota will do is yet to be seen. I applaud the mods for starting the sticky thread to grasp an idea.

It may be just a numbers game, yet each tech I have spoken to (several now across the country) have not seen one. Being this is August of 2020, the issue starts as early as 34K (from my notes only) I would think some would be showing up.
Then comes the Toyota knows of the issue and worked to solve it. Changed manufactures? Took it upon themselves in the new plant?

I'm not bucking what you are proposing, yet I'm not seeing it yet. I believe they got a handle on it.. Believe being the key word... Time will tel though, aye!

Did you push the issue? I have spoken to a few that have had the issue cover outside of warranty. Ya, it meant they could prove maintenance schedule and better if the dealer did it.. yet..

When I read how folks outside of warranty got screwed.. I have to wonder what they did or not do to.. My second hope from all this is that if you are one of those, take the time (with the documents) and go back at this!

I spoke with my Service Advisor and was given another year on warranty due to the work. If this was to happen again within 5/60K, we'd be having some serious conversations. Which I see everyone should.
What I have been told so far (plus 60K after repair), all is fine. Bad parts replaced.

You still have the Taco.. I'd re-approach Toyota!

Thanks, long time Toyota customer and I do let dealer do most the work on my 3rd gen, just did all the fluids at 45k, I just get nervous seeing these threads, besides a Bsm needing cleaned she’s been flawless. Plan on keeping her another 55k miles.

I still hope for my Taco being the last rig I buy the wife! Being 5th year of retirement and the Taco being now the second vehicle, I figure I'm eighty by the time it hits 150K! I call it a failure I a 'truck' doesn't hit 250K and I've owned (still do) Fords! LOL

I really don't see why it won't.. I mean mine with the repair. I'm feeling warm & fuzzy about her Taco again. My Ford.. I'm good for now.. LOL

I read that as well. Was it part of the 2019 builds? Awaiting serial number of the engine to understand. Otherwise.. I'm just not informed enough to comment. Honestly, I may never be... I'm passing what I know to be true and emphasizing what I look at as conjecture.

Truck was built March of 2020. Engine could have been built in 2019. But with this "just in time manufacturing".
I doubt Toyota lets and engine sit 60+ days.

2019 with 59k miles, just got the p11ec and confirmation of burnt exhaust valve in cylinder 1. 3 other 2017-2020 tacos at the dealer for the same issue. Definitely becoming more common with increased mileage. Had the fuel pump recall done about 10k ago. Vin starts with #3, not sure on mfg location, guessing Mexico. No word from toyota on an actual cause or if replacing the cylinder head will be a perminant fix.
