I have something going on I can’t figure out. Truck will drive fine and randomly not go into gear. I’ll pull up to a stop sign and it won’t go into first from a stop. If I turn the truck off put it into gear and hold the clutch in it won’t take off until I let out the clutch then have to rev match it to shift up and down the gears. It doesn’t do it all the time. I’ve bled the slave cylinder. Drained and replaced the MT-90. I’ve pulled the shifter and inspected the bushings, cleaned and lightly greased it. Nothing alarming on the drain plug. I ran the fluid through a paper towel to filter it and don’t see anything crazy. The throw out makes some nasty noises when the clutch is in but that’s the only time it works. If the clutch is in and it’s quiet it doesn’t go into gear. I has a heavy flywheel, CM 8 puck FX450, OEM fork and throw out and a TRD short shifter with 275k miles. I had drained the transmission and refilled it last spring like normal. I do it every two years. Throw out doesn’t make noise when the clutch is out and it’s in gear.

Most likely bad master or slave cylinder. With the master cylinder being plastic on your truck I’d start there. It won’t be anything to do with the shifter or trans fluid.

If it was a bad master or slave cylinder wouldn’t it take off if starting it in gear with the clutch in?

Not necessarily. It can still be disengaging the clutch enough to allow it to slip vs turning the wheels. Doesn’t mean it’s disengaged enough to make shifting gears easily. Similar scenario to if you aren’t bled properly. Still enough fluid to air ratio to get the clutch partially disengaged, but not enough to get it fully disengaged.

If it’s not that then it’s probably something physical with the clutch and possibly the pressure plate not releasing properly.

If you pull the trans do the URD throw out bearing kit. The sleeve on the snout is a great fix.

I ordered one today. I had a CM Hydro Bearing after having it shit the bed twice I put my OEM stuff back in. The second time it did it I didn’t have time to wait on the URD sleeve kit ship from the East Coast.

I have heard a lot of failures from both hydro kits on the market.

IMG_0367.jpg May have found the culprit. Fluid poured out the boot when I pulled it apart.:fingerscrossed:

Wasn’t the problem. Not getting locked outta gear anymore but that noise didn’t go away. Opening day of deer season is tomorrow and I’ll mess with it later.

Yeah, that’ll do it. I figured that was unlikely but it’s always a possibility. Pressure plate going bad is also a possibility. Sounds like you had two issues between the leaky slave and the bad disc.

I can’t believe as bad as that clutch looks it never slipped. The day it became a problem I had driven over a steep windy mountain pass in the Cascades ( also drove over the other way two days before) and was trying to pull out from the last stop sign to my house and I wouldn’t go into gear. Guess I got really lucky there.

I can’t believe you’re running a 8 puck clutch in a Tacoma, talk about overkill unless your Taco is making some serious jam from a supercharger or custom turbo setup. Interesting clutch choice.

It’s too heavy to run a OEM clutch. I got 90k out of this one. 120k out of the stock and 65k out of a URD stage 2.
I told them what it weighs and where I take it. :notsure: It’s definitely not stock under the hood, just a N/A that breathes really good.

    What’s your truck weigh?
I’ve put 6-8 puck clutches in street cars that make 500-700 WHP, in a 200 WHP Tacoma seems nuts IMO.
