You do not need any adapters for the 5x8. Just splice them in. Order the speakers and you will be set

would that be better than getting the adapters from Crutchfield? I didn't really want to cut into the factory wiring but if it'll sound better that way I will

You are making this much harder than it needs to be. The factory opening accommodates most 5x7/6x8 speakers as long as they are not too deep. If you order from crutchfield and put your vehicle information in they will only recommend the speakers that fit. Order the component speakers you have been talking about. pop off the door panels (you can get diagrams from this forum) and put the new speakers in. You will cut off the factory wiring harness and splice the new speakers in. They will come with several feet of wire. You will have to buy a pack of electrical connectors from wally world or an auto parts store

I understand that. I ordered the package with the speakers and tweeters last night. I found the door panel diagrams on ncttora. I put my head unit in myself and spliced it in. I was just wondering if sound quality would be affected depending on how they were wired. It seems like the more connectors between the head unit and speakers the worse the sound quality would be.

Only matters if you are susceptible to placebos; doesn't matter in reality.

As long as you do it right you will be fine. If you are worried about it solder the connections.

Well I canceled my order after waiting a week and finding out they hadn't even shipped them yet. Now I've got the itch to put an amp in while I'm at it. I think I've picked out everything I need but need to make sure.
I'm looking at this amp: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17615_Boss+CW150.html
    the same speaker set: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8769_Kicker+DS680.2.html
and then an amp wiring kit: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17769_Kicker+DCK10+-+09DCK10.html

Would that amp be a good match for the speakers I picked and is there anything I else I need?
