Nothing wrong with leasing but with Toyota the resale is usually higher than the lease buyout at the end. Just check it before you turn it in. You can buy and trade it in all in the same process.

They're great about not chipping; sitting in the back parking lot at the dealership waiting to be worked on keeps them pristine.

Im glad i found this thread to see that others are having and identifying the problem.
This totally blows though. $70k on a TRD Pro that stays on the road and its getting spanked from normal road debris! Same as the OP, im in the central PA/MD area.
Before winter, i clayed, polished and put on 2 coats of a ceramic coating. Because of the winter, salt, rain, slush and snow, i hadnt really inspected the truck until today after going through the wash at the dealer.
Maintenace dept at dealership was out inspecting the truck and snapping photos. They claimed that a few pro trucks are coming in with similar damage and owners causing enough rukus that Toyota might repaint these trucks and offer some type of fix, be it mudflaps, running boards, PPF etc.
Anyone having luck with the tufskinz or PPF in this area?

OP, looks like that black plastic edge guard needs to be extended up to the PPF line at least. And yes, rock salt can be just as hard as gravel.

You did it yourself or had it done? Lots of bends and curves, just curious how that went.

This is very worrisome, as I have not even gotten mine yet. Yes, these trucks are expensive enough that they ought to have considered their obvious use in North America in protecting its finish from regular use.

If this gets bad enough, it will cost them more money in warranty claims than simply having the film installed as a prophylactic.

You might consider just getting it done as soon as you get the truck. I heard if you put running boards on, it helps or possibly adding after market fron mudflaps.
But once you get your truck, you'll see how vulnerable this area really is

I checked my BO tonight, NJ Winter hasn't caused any obvious issues for me. Stock tires no flaps.

I wonder if Toyota will go with another tire? Switching tires to something that might not pick up as many pebbles as the GY could be a component among other things to mitigate the chipping. I'm not talking about solving the problem just seeing what Toyota might do to make it not their problem.

i think at most they will put a bigger piece of PPF on the bedside from the factory, as like a rolling change. other than that they will do nothing..

Wider track + narrow cab = predictable outcome.

Just looking at the spray patterns from rain/mud on the sides, it appears flaps are mandatory. Just make sure they’re from a reputable supplier that has properly tested b/c (also predictably) there’s no shortage of $50 pieces of cheap plastic that offer no protection being offered on sites.

You are not overreacting. This would pi$$ me off as well. Flaring those bedsides out further did nothing for functionality. The "good" news is that those bedsides are aluminum and you wont have to worry about those chips turning into rust. PPF it and get some running boards if they work for you.

I had my first service completed today with 4.2k miles on the clock ('25 TRD Sport in BO). Driven in Ohio winter weather twice and already showing signs of chips appearing on leading edge of bed, and it feels like it's been sand blasted. Dealership took photos, captured observation in service report and said they will inquire with regional manager as to how Toyota plans to address this issue. They acknowledged this seems excessive for the miles and mild environment/winter we have in this region. They found noting in their database so far on this issue, but they said if enough customers grumble about this, Toyota normally makes good on issues like this. Fingers crossed...

I forgot I made this thread

Anyways, life got in the way and I had to cancel my initial appointment. I plan on going in for an oil service in a couple weeks and I'll show it to them then. Already have a backup plan as I know they're going to tell me too bad too sad.
