Look what he was trying to climb up no wonder he blew his engine, it was starved of oil on a steep incline probably revving the shit out of it.

trying to do jeep things! Would climbing something that steep necessarily starve your engine of oil?

I've heard of a few blown motors after attempting relatively steep climbs or off camber leans. They are all the same... heavy gray smoke then clunk. Granted, most people will never take one of these Tacomas on terrain steep enough or sideways enough to cause this, but some will. My older 4 Runner, 1st gen Taco, or none of my 4 jeeps suffered from this issue. I love my 3rd gen (17') model. But I am concerned enough about the issue that I won't be placing it in that situation. The question I would like the answer for is are all 3rd gen motors susceptible to this? Are there those who place their trucks in these situations with no issues? What is the difference? I have seen the Marlin Crawler 3rd gen test truck climb some ridiculous angles seemingly with no problems.

This is me assuming, but wouldn't the low RPMs on the Marlin truck prevent a lot of these issues as you don't need nearly as much oil pressure for those RPMs?

@WarFab Armor was another, but so many people were derailing the thread that I think he deleted it and all the photos that showed the insides poking out through the block.

Most of the ones I've seen happened at idle.

The bummer to me is, there’s two issues. There’s the pooling in the head (grey smoke, pcv etc). Then there’s starving the pickup tube. Which is what I think this was.

That's my point. These guys blowing motors probably don't have that insane crawl ratio.

Honestly make sure your oil level is good and install a oil catch can and you will be fine .

I thought I recall ovtune mentioning that in certain attitudes (uphill vs downhill) you can either “over flow” the drains in the head so that it gets sucked up by the pcv (this is where a catch can would help), or starve the oil pickup. I could be remembering wrong tho.
