Hi - add me to the list of those who had the antenna snapped off in the car wash. (and please don't say "serves you right" or anything like that...:smack:)
I read thru nearly every thread on the topic and went ahead with the "drill-out-the-stud" procedure.

Tried it first with a #1 Grabit. No go.

Went back to the store and got a set of left-handed drills and EZouts. Still no go.

The problem is that no matter what I use to try and drill a hole, it won't drill a hole.

Attached is a photo of what the assembly looks like. The antenna mast hole is less than a quarter-inch down from the top of the mount, so I know there's got to be something still stuck in there.

Any tips would greatly be appreciated!

Could you be more descriptive? Is the drill bit not cutting into the metal? Is the drill bit sharp? Are you unable to align the bit properly with the center of the bolt?

I would definitely suggest removing the antenna base for this procedure, but you'll want to center punch the bolt and drill it with a press using drilling oil liberally.

I guess I'm the only one with an antenna that literally comes loose all the time? I'm constantly hand tightening mine back down. Good luck getting it out.

the bottom piece of the antenna is like GRADE MOTHEREFFING 10 hardened steel. I literally tried it all (except a dremel) but still dont see how a dremel will even get in there. I bought the whole reassembly from the stealership and it was only like 120ish i think. but i took it back cuz i just said fuck it for the time being. didnt want to have to rip off my fender.

I ended up JB welding the antenna back to the borken part, let it dry, unscrewed it without issues on my Mom's truck.

    Stubby Antenna FTW!

I have a stubby on mine. I have a different problem the screw in part from the stubby came lose and the antenna unscrewed from that rather than the whole thing coming out. Can't get the damn thing out even though it sticks out and is not down in. Not a big deal since I can still screw the stubby back on but I wanted to go back to the stock antenna

Get a small rubber washer and put that on. Then screw your antenna back on. The rubber washer keeps it from loosening up. Never worry about mine anymore

Thanks, all for the tips - especially to TheGrinch who accurately described the antenna stub. I've tried a number of bits AND those Grab-it screw extractor bit and NOTHING will penetrate that thing.

I will try the Dremel (since I have nothing to lose at this point) but I'm guessing I'll end up replacing the whole base. Lovely!
