Mine is leaking @ 14,000 miles...I'm going to have them replace it. Along with some new hold down hardware.
It is now corroded due to the battery acid.

I carry a Noco battery jumper in both our cars just in case one dies. When my oem gives out, I'm going with Optima

Dealership replaced. Bad battery, nothing was draining it and alternator functioning as designed. Just a bad battery.

First dealership (stopped by after getting jumped and on my way to work) acted like they didn't want the work... kept telling me they'd have to keep it a mininum of 2 hours and that it might be overnight in order for them to charge the battery... i said ok, you got a rental for me. They reply "all out". I tell them I'll come back after work, around 3p.

After work, i decide to try a different dealership and they got me in, confirmed bad battery, and replaced inside an hour. Makes me think I'll need to start using this new dealership with issues in the future.

That's great news, now set that reminder to replace it again before you hit 40k miles

Third gens don't use 27F? The stock one in my 07 lasted 7 years.

Also you guys, miles driven has extremely limited bearing on battery life. Liquid cell batteries die from heat, or low voltage first and foremost. The whole "set a reminder to replace at x miles" is shit advice.

And why the eff replace out of pocket if you can get one for free? Wtf? A fool and their money I guess

Nah, all 3rd Gens come with the 24F even if you have the tow package.

The rest is all banter... Including the reminder. These 24F batteries have been dropping dead lately, almost like clockwork and everyone handles it differently.

Just FYI. When you warranty a battery, the test could say “charge battery” in which case it will need to be charged before further testing. That’s where your two hours or overnight comes from. And when you do warranty work and don’t follow the procedurs, there’s a chance that during an audit, that will be discovered. I don’t know how Toyota works, but you could lose that warranty claim and a percentage of all other claims for not following the rules so I get why one dealer might do that. Especially if they have been audited recently.

Warranty is usually paid at a lower rate and a lower parts margin too. So losing a claim means you eat the parts and labor cost. This is the “carrot” aspect that encourages you not to cheat the system.

Not trying to excuse, just explain so that you’ll understand why next time.

A bad battery can be hard to diagnose when it's at the tail end of it's healthy life. There are a lot of factors that can make a marginal battery look good, but I also can't say if the dealership checked it or not.

It’s usually tested with an electronic tester. The tester gives you a code that goes on the battery claim. Two testers will probably give two different results. We also use a load test which. In my opinion, is a more accurate representation of condition.

Tail end of most batteries in S. Nevada and AZ for that matter is 24mo. Extreme hot temperature kills them, couldn't tell you how many i've had to replace over the years in various vehicles, dead in the garage and out on the road. Doesn't matter the brand or type, 24months comes around be looking or be looking at being stranded somewhere unless you got a battery booster charged up in waiting in the truck. It's not the miles, it's the freaking heat and 2 years seems to be it. YMMV, can only speak for my personal experience of 30 years in the heat.

Yep, mine died around 30k miles (2016 OR). They tested it.... and replaced it, in about 2 hrs.

How far do you you guys having issues drive your vehicles a day? I drive bare minimum 2 hours 5 days a week. Going on 3 year old battery wit no issues. Ive also been known to hook it up to a battery tender of the weekends just cause

Pretty much the same, daily driver. 800 mile round trip once a month to S. AZ also. Don't get me wrong, i've had them last more than 36mo before, here that seems to be more the exception than the rule. It's how lucky you feelin'. I live here but try not to gamble if I can keep from it. Ounce of prevention

Man, that's crazy that batteries are dying so quickly. I'm used to getting 4-5 years out of OEM batteries before having to replace them.

Mine died at 12 months/11000 miles in, 2017 TRD OR. Came back from my deployment (buddy was driving truck on base to and from work once a week so it didnt sit), 2 days later noticed it was struggling to start and dead. Best part was service department telling me I had to leave the truck with them to test it under warranty and an 8 hour diagnosis. I laughed, bought a new TRUSTART Toyota battery from the parts department, installed myself, wrote Toyota a nice letter with my reciept and 4 weeks later got a check in the mail. Still miffed how a 1 year old battery goes to shit, but impressed with Toyota's response to make it right (not the service dept nonsense of course).
