Just traded in my 2005 Tundra DC about 2 weeks ago for a 2018 Tacoma. The Tundra had a Trustart Toyota battery in it that lasted over 12 years. It never died on me it started getting weak with 155,000 miles. That's unheard of, so I replaced it with the same.

Happened to me. Just got back from a 2 week vacation. Went to go surf this morning and it was dead. Luckily the girlfriend hadn’t left for work yet so I got a jump. I know I didn’t leave anything on while I was gone. Quite a bummer.

How about Costco batteries? Interstate not a bad brand in the past. I hear it’s all made by Johnson controls.

Well... it is a 2000 4runner with 255K... so it's somewhat expected. But I'm pretty sure the kid sits in the car with the radio playing all the time. Had to be told that's not good practice. "Sorry, kid, no money to help you get that laptop you need for school... I just spent $300 and half a Saturday getting your vehicle running."

I think everyone is racing to get production costs down on electronics and as a result the consumers are suffering from poor reliability. My company has noticed that a lot of the analog electronics we use in our hardware have become unreliable. For example computer power supplies & fans have taken a reliability hit we think.

They replaced your battery for free. What the hell do you want them to do other than that? You'd whine that Toyota should spend more on R&D to fix the weather if it rained on your truck.

You're admitting how biased and ignorant you are.

There's no such thing as "ford batteries" lol, Toyota and Ford both have their batteries made by Johnson Controls.

I mean I want not to have to keep going back to the dealer for crap fixes. That’s why I bought a Toyota so i could avoid spending time in a service dept dude.

i totally understand that, it's what Toyota's been about, but not 100% nowadays. that's why i did out of pocket replacement with quality. the reality is that if i want a quality battery, higher quality than OEM, i gotta pay for it. but i also payed for better tires, better suspension, better wheels, a better seat, a better stereo, a better shifter etc etc

On starting batteries - If any have discharged the battery past 10% of capacity and left it for a day, they severely reduced the battery life by allowing sulfate crystals to form. Get a maintainable battery that is easy to check the electrolyte levels. Never let the fluid level get below the top of the plates. Never, ever, ever, drain the battery below 90% charge (12.5V) or it will sulfate.

Piss off the auto part store by bringing in a meter and test the battery voltage before buying. It better be 12.55 or higher or go elsewhere. These places leave them discharging on the shelf for months and already ruin them before the sale. It took me 3 places last month to find a fresh one for my wife's car.

No matter what you do, a hot engine compartment ruins a battery.

cus i wanted a vehicle with a naturally aspirated motor, a stick shift, good utility, good resale, and reliability. and then i mod it to make it exactly right. where did you find your perfection... at a store? i have to make my own cus a store doesn't have it for me.

    THIS.

Vehicles are never going to give me 100% of what I want. They are built to drive the roads of America, not the offroads of America.
