    Hmmm... Lots
    Hello all,

New to the forum. Let me start by saying I did my best to try to find the answer here and elsewhere before posting. I have a Viper 7756V remote start in my 13' Taco. The installer connected the remote door lock to the horn instead of the stock door lock beep piezo. I have found the lead wire for the Viper tapped into the horn to signal the horn to honk when locking the door. when connecting to the piezo I do not get the expected beep response. I'm curious if the piezo is expecting a specific signal or is there is a voltage issue? My understanding is both the signal coming from the Viper and the factory signal are both 12 volt. Is this true? Am is missing something else?

Based on reading other posts I suspect someone is going to want to know the why, so I am going to include it right out of the gate. I much prefer the beep over the honk, and when I leave for work early in the morning or get home late at night I suspect my neighbors do too. The Viper also tends to honk the horn when the battery is getting low, which means I can't stop it from honking the horn and disrupting the neighbors by changing my behavior. And finally I am putting in some air horns which will exacerbate the earlier mentioned reasons in the near future.

    Any help is much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Eric

I do plan on reaching out to the installer as well, however I suspect they won't be able to provide any information the piezo that produces the beep.

Maybe the beep piezo control is switching the ground and not just applying 12 volts. I just looked through the prints I have and did not see the piezo beeper listed in the locking circuit.

If it is switching the ground leg of the circuit it should have 12 volts to it all the time...

Maybe @caribe makaira will chime in, he always has excellent information.

Strange because my 2012 has the little beeper for locking the doors but it isn't on the prints I have.

    Looks like this:

Must be Region thing. I looked at '12 through '15 and didn't find it. 3rd Gen 2016 and on has it...

    Edit:
After a slower review of the EWD I have, the '15 shows this:
    upload_2019-8-21_13-2-54.jpg

BTW the Viper # is the remote, not the module.

Thanks @Jimmyh for the info. We are going to do some testing to find exact voltage and if its switching or not.

@caribe makaira thanks for the info, I am going to see if I can find the actual model number for the module. I was looking at that diagram in a manual as well, but it does not show voltage or any switching or anything like that.

My guesstimate is: The Viper module provides a ground, since that's the manner the HORN circuit works...

The Viper installer seems to think that the beeper is not an analog signal and tieing into the existing line may damage the BMC. I might have them give it another go though, they said they would be willing to try to tackle the project.

Nah not yet, they didn't divulge that info and I forgot to ask. Apparently according to them there is only one compatible control module. They looked for a can but alternative, but said the 13 taco didn't support it.
