Been lurking the forums for a few days now reading up on previous posts. Honestly, driving myself insane since I bought this 2010 Double Cab with only 37k miles. It's super clean but during the purchase process I found out that it has the original frame even though the sales rep said it had been replaced (mind you this is from an authorized toyota dealer).

Anyways, it's being inspected by the dealer today. I crawled underneath the frame and there are a few rust spots, some flaking near the rails and then this hole. I believe this hole is manufactured but it looks bigger than it was originally meant to be.

What do y'all think? I'm thinking it's larger than 10mm but do you think this should be eligible for frame replacement? I only have a year left on the 'extended warranty enhancement program' and live in NJ so it's important I get this sorted out.

I would say get it in writing, get a copy of the paperwork the dealer sends to Toyota have it documented that the frame is covered for the extended timeframes.

Good luck and keep us informed.

That looks like the usual hole that’s supposed to be there. Compare the driver side rail which is less prone to rust.

You can see metal flaking up in there and that’s the usual spot for rust to take place. I highly doubt a dealer or Toyota will help you out with that. And in that case get yourself a compressor and blow out all that flake out the rear of the frame, pick up any big flakes with a stick magnet, and get some Eastwood internal frame spray and go to town.

    Hey all,

Just heard back from the dealership. Frame passed inspection and everything was documented and sent to Toyota corporate. Unfortunately I missed the window to get CRC spray done from Toyota which I heard was shit anyway. I just want to have everything documented in case something fails in the future. I appreciate everyone's responses!

Now onto researching ways to make an original frame last in the rust belt...

    Thanks again.

Scrape any loose paint and flaking metal off the frame. Steel wool or wire wheel after. Clean it off (I use isopropyl alcohol or acetone). Hit it with a coating of rustoleum rust reformer (or another rust converter) and then top coat with semi gloss black.

Once your confident it is coated, spray your undercarriage/frame with fluid film or woolwax (lanolin based undercoating). Apply at least annually but twice a year would be my suggestion.
