So I received the Toyota 'Warranty Enhancement Notification' which includes the sticker for the owner's manual and I have some questions for other members in the same situation as I. My truck: '10 Tacoma 4X4 4CYL reg cab man trans; 34K miles (Date of First Use 08/29/09). My 2010 Tacoma is on the 'late end' of the period that vehicles are covered under this warranty, so theoretically my truck should have comparatively less frame corrosion. Basically, I think I want as much corrosion as possible when I submit the truck to Toyota for inspection, to ensure that it gets a new frame and NOT the 'CRC' or spray-on treatment. Therefore I'm going to wait until late spring '18 to submit the truck for inspection in hopes that a new frame will be the diagnosis. My personal visual inspection shows lots of deep surface rust but I'm not sure if there are any 10mm holes anywhere. I love this truck and want to keep it for many more years but I'm nervous about this recall/inspection/CRC thing. I also have several other un-remedied recalls (rear leafs, cat converter, steering collar) which I hope will be performed right after NEW FRAME INSTALLATION.
    :fingerscrossed:
Does this sound like a legitimate concern? Would like to hear from other members about their thoughts or experiences in this matter - thanks in advance!

One other issue I forgot to mention... I have installed a Curt Hitch to the rear of this truck and have done some light towing. Will this attached hitch be a problem for the frame replacement inspection?

Just mix salt with water in a spray bottle and spray down your frame every day before you drive it lol

Your 2010 with an in-service date of 8/29/2009 will be covered under the WEP until 8/27/2021--why not wait 'til spring of 2021 to have it inspected?

What's the deal with the spray? Doesn't the warranty on the frame get extended an additional 15 years after it's treated?

My limited research indicates that the CRC (Corrosion Resistant Coating, i.e., 'the spray') does not repair or reverse existing corrosion; it appears that it is a rubberized coating, like a sound deadener, and will likely flake off within 2-3 years. I don't recall reading anything about a 15 year extension on the warranty due to CRC application. The rust on these frames is like a time bomb, they should be replaced!

cliffyk, I agree with your suggestion on submission for inspection in 2021 but I'm wondering if I will be 'violating' any terms of the settlement by waiting that long.

You are quite correct, there is no coating of which I am aware that could "repair or remove existing corrosion", both would rely mostly on elbow grease not some "spray-on magic elixir".

My opinion of this component of the settlement is that it is intended only as "eye-wash" to mollify class members whose rusted frames do not meet the perforation standard--rather than Toyota's being seen as "doing nothing" (which IMHO is pretty much what having some yard-jockey in stained coveralls squirt this stuff on actually is).

FWIW these are the CRC products used in the previous LSC E0D limited service campaign for 2005-2008 Tacomas (expired 3/31/2016):

712AM is Toyota's designation for a coating produced for them by Daubert Chemical, I could not find any specific data for their flavour of it, however it is likely one of their listed products labeled with Toyota's part number.

Here is the spec sheet for the Noxudol 300S.

I am not familiar with these products, but I have seen many poorly applied alleged "CRC coatings" that actually made the situation worse by trapping moisture under the silly coating.

The good news here however is I see nothing in the settlement agreement or the WEP notice that excludes a vehicle that has received the CRC treatment under this campaign from frame replacement "down-the-road".

Be aware however that the CRC limited service campaign (LSC-H0F) is independent of the warranty enhancement policy (WEP-ZH6) and is only available until 5/21/19

Nor do I find any language indicating any specific vehicle inspection requirement deadline, or other required inspections within the 12-year warranty enhancement period, or that not having the CRC service performs would exclude a truck from the warranty enhancement.

Or on a sponge attached to a battery and the frame. Toyota really needs to just suck it up, do the right thing and replace all of them.

Thanks much Cliff for the excellent information, very well researched! I feel much better about this process but I'm still worried that I'll end up as a CRC customer rather that a new frame customer!

I guess I'll have to 'go with the flow' and see what happens when I visit the dealership. Thanks again!

1st date of use 2/21/2011--it could be a "left-over" 2010 MY; or perhaps Toyota is including all trucks made in 2010?

    Hi guys,

My experience of the CRC coating:

A friend of mine got it done on the recall of the Tundra, and it was done very well.

I got it done on my 2006 Tacoma 3 years ago, and the dealer did a very very bad job. He only covered visible parts on only the side members, and over the dust and flaking paint.

    Now everything, fortunately, is off.

I did the rest with rust converter, but didn’t work.

I now received the letter again. However my frame is not perforated, but the rust is down deep and it delaminates on the edges.

I was hopping to find a better dealer and have the frame inspected and possibly treated again, but in the proper way. However I asked a dealer and he told me that since the CRC treatment has already been done they would not do it again. They would only just inspect for perforation.

    What do you think?

The dealer is correct, this is laid out in the paragraph just below the "sticker" in the WEP notification...

The frame layers that are separating can fail the inspection.Do you have a picture of this?

I took my 09 in today for the inspection and they said everything looked fine.

So after sitting there an hour all I got was a shitty car wash
