    Motul Synthetic
I use to think most synthetic oils were all the same. I’ve ran Mobil 1, Castrol, Royal Purple, Valvoline, Penzoil, etc. So far the best brand I have used is Amsoil 0w 20, I’m at almost 30k, and have been avg. 20 mpgs, loaded with a rooftop tent and camping gear 18 mpg. Motul has been around for a long time, I’ll post what I think after my oil change, I can say ALL the brands I’ve used aside from Amsoil, the oil would get dark after 3k miles, the Amsoil after 7800 miles just started to darken.

I used mobil 1 extended service doing my 3rd oil change since owning this truck...the last one by myself once no more troyota care. I'll have to see how black it appears in 10k miles. My tundra's oil always looked dark amber after 15k miles using the same brand oil.

Oil color doesn’t tell you anything.

Kirkland is used around where I live on farm equipment, never thought to put it in my truck, I’ll definitely keep that one on my radar.

not doubting you, just trying to learn. why does it darken and does oil color tell you anything? how 'bout the color of differential gear oil? i read where some members drained the fluid, and it was dark.

It must mean something if it starts out from light amber in color from the jug to dark brown in 15k miles.....like it's time to change it.:notsure:

I had done a similar deal from Wally World buying 2 5qt jugs of mobil1 extended service for under $70 shipped free to my door. It was hard to beat as every one else here would charge over $80 for the same amount.

There's a lot of reasons for oil to change colors. Oxidation and soot loading are possibilities. It may also be dissolving deposits. Oil is supposed to dissolve or suspend these impurities. The additives in different oils may darken at different rates. There's just too much going on to use color as a guide to anything.

If it's taking that long to darken that's not necessarily a good thing.

It’s been cooler, I haven’t needed to push my truck hard, or been off road. In the summer the oil would’ve been much darker by now. Heat and dirt will cook the oil quicker it’ll darken and then start to thicken and the first sign you need to change oil is your mpg’s start to drop. I would use Amsoil again but it’s getting hard to find, and I’m going to get it delivered to my house, why not try something that’s used in 4x4’s all across Europe, so it’s not like it’s a new untested oil. Before I forget, the Wal of mart has Toyota brand Tacoma oil cartridges cheaper than Amaz.

My mpg drop for different reasons, like its winter, its got nothing to do with how dirty the oil becomes. A dirty air filter, maf sensor, or low tire pressure will cause poor mpg. Say the color difference in oil sounds absurd imo.

This is a rare and expensive oil with Super natural properties as it was harvested from the skies of Kuwait on Dec 25 1990. Ancient legends refer to it as "The Christ of all Oils" because whichever Motors bathe in it, shall have everlasting life.
