Another great Toyota care experience.

Hard to find any fault with the dealership that handled toyota care on my truck. They're all older ASE techs that to impeccable work. I see they've been advertising for younger auto techs with some experience every time I pass the place. I'd not give it a second thought having any service done there, but at 27 miles away, its easier for myself to do the simple stuff.

I can't complain about my dealership service bay, every now and then you get a miss usually with th it's a small one. Forgetting a window or tire pressure on 1 tire. They don't like the oil leak complaints.i usually bypass the vacuum and window clean and get the free carwash instead.

I do my own maintenance and have never used Toyota Care. I couldn’t tell you if these results are typical or not. That said, I gotta admit even when I do my own I usually have a slight oil smell for a couple days bc I’ve gotten a few drops on the motor when removing the funnel or didn’t position my the pan underneath the plug so that once it got near empty it didn’t run down the pan then puddle up on my TRD Skid plate. That damn filter canister… that thing is an automatic to get a few drops on the skid when lowering it down through the hole unless you’re super cautious and careful. At times I even have to retorque and retighten my canister. This happens to me every other time on this truck when doing oil changes. Front diff changes are even worse bc I don’t feel like pulling the skid off so it just drains through the skid crack. I always recheck levels and fill as needed which usually isn’t ever needed bc not enough spills.

Time to find another dealership. No, these results aren't typical. I had a lot of great experiences with my local dealership and they even found issues I was not aware of that were covered by warranty.

My dealership had the opposite issue, they spent a day CSI'ing themselves to figure out what the little oil splashes were on my skid plate and suggested they keep it another day, but because of what they discerned to be 'impact' damage on my front drive shaft they were gonna have to charge me. i got under.. looked around, gave the square socket oil filter cap a quarter turn.. done. "i figured out what you said would take a day.." every time they call to schedule an appointment i unload the whole story as to why i would never use their shop, they always say they'll take me off the list..

I have this tool...the Motivx one.

Works great for the Filter Housing...which I switched out.

I'll use the other hose I bought on the newly installed Fumoto Valve on then next oil change.

Also bought the Motivx funnel. I used an extra funnel which prevented spillage; I did not aim well the first time I used the blue funnel alone.

Years ago, probably my last free Toyota care experience, the tech noticed a paint blemish on hood when I picked up vehicle. She said hold on, and took the truck to the paint shop. 15 minutes later it was returned with the blemish gone. I had previously tried washing buffing to no avail. So I actually had a very positive experience using the Toyota care.

That cracked me up every time I saw it on the write up. Like wtf? It's anchored to the floor. Is that really something to waste time on?

The oil change process is really easy. Only thing you should pickup is a torque wrench. When I did my first one after toyota care expired they had torqued both the drain bolt and filter cap to HELL. I was miffed to say the least because that's a great way to cause damage over time.

You really don't even need a torque wrench for this if you've wrenched enough in the past. You should be able to determine when something has been tightened enough for what it is. Its call commonsense.

Kind of easy but kind of annoying too. On an easy car you can spin off a filter and undo 1 drain plug…

Here you have a minimum 4 bolts holding the cover for cartridge (on the pro) + draining of the cartridge then inserting the filter .. 2 new o
Rings and the usual drain plug after. Not hard by any means but it isn’t super easy …

Not sure where that came from but my father always told me tighten but not "Man Mountain Dean" it.

    Ahh... I get it now

I get it. Commonsense is pretty uncommon on this site.:frusty::frusty::frusty:

    I drive a Miata.

I just changed mine in my garage yesterday. There probably was a tiny dribble that got onto the skid plate during filter change. When I went to dinner four hours later, my skid and garage floor looked exactly like yours. It really doesn't take much oil to make a big spot on the floor - that stuff likes to spread (as it was engineered to do). Still freaked the hell out of me though - I crawled under the truck with shop towels and a flashlight to find the source. I couldn't find one, checked the tightness, saw the drip on the skid, and chalked it up to me being a messy fucker.

This morning, everything was squeaky clean and dry.

    It happens.

    Stock so far, lol!
I recently had the same experience, enough oil in the skid plate to sling all over the undercarriage. Noticed a burning oil smell about 15 minutes from the dealership and freaked out. Got it home and checked it, no visible leaks but oil was everywhere. The dealership sent someone to my house to check it in case all the oil was gone. I understand spills happen, but that was excessive and uncalled for since thats what they do all day long on Toyotas.

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
Before I had my second set of rims, I would take mine to the dealership to install my winter tires. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME, they would put the nuts on so tight that I couldn't get them off, even using my entire body weight. Even when I specifically asked them to make sure they torque them properly.

At the time, I was driving from Vancouver to Calgary, and back for Christmas every year. 1000 km each way, in winter driving conditions, with many long stretches without cellular reception. If I got a flat, I would have been unable to change it myself, or call a tow truck to do it for me.

Needless to say they got an earful... then I bought a second set of rims so I can do it myself.

Hell yeah. Can’t beat the hobby shops. I stop at bases all over the country to check my truck, oil changes, what have you. Always clean always have a lift and usually not crowded. Good perk of the ID card.
