Another grille help thread

So I have a 21 off road with the advanced tech which has the front camera. I want to get the pro grille with the cement letters on front, but I’m having trouble finding ways to swap them out.

tacovinyl sells a camera mount bracket, but they say it only works with theirs. I also notice the camera is swapped from the bottom to the top of the grille. Does that not interfere with the way it’s shown on the dash?

I see most sellers like MC auto have their grills for around $189. Why is the taco vinyl ones $450?

Must be the paint work they do since all the others, mine included, are just flat black finish. Can't see much else that would make them so much more special.

 

I thought the edge going around of the grill was always color matched? Yours is matte black?

 

The portion that is replaced is all matte black and pops into the already color-matched trim ring that is standard on the truck. I got color-matched letters but nothing else was painted. I get the impression by their mention of "paint" that those are getting some further customization than the stand Pro grill? I may be blowin' smoke, though.

Yeah I just wanted color matched letters.

 

If it helps, I bought mine from Empyreoffroad and added the garnish for the adaptive cruise control. Everything was as described and they shipped it fast. Fit and finish are great!! No problems with the install at all after watching a couple vids on the Utoob before I took delivery.

 

You have the oem front camera?

 

Nope. That was the one bit if tech I didn't want. I guess I forgot about that being the deal with the T.V. version. Derp!

 

The one you've selected is painted. It's always more when they have to paint it or powder coat it. Labor charges!

I have the OEM front facing camera. It does NOT interfere with the way it is displayed. It actually gives me (this is my personal opinion) a better view. I get a higher angle looking down, so I can see a wider ground area. It will also not be blocked by my steel bumper w/push guard.

 

Oh, so the v2&3 grills have the middle black bar painted? I thought by painted it meant the area around the grille. Yeah I want just like yours is but cement.

so by swapping to the camera to the top, you get a better view? Do you still have the black bar that is shown on the screen?

 

Correct, the one you chose is painted (The outside housing is painted, or the bar in the middle is painted....or both), the one I chose is all black. And yes, putting the camera at the top of the grill instead of the bottom, I get a better view. The black bar on the camera, is actually ON the camera. It's how you know the orientation of the camera and to help you line things up!

I figured this out by testing the camera when I was dry-fitting everything. I plugged the camera in (but didn't mount it), then turned on the truck. My friend was holding the camera and pointing it towards the wall in the garage and it showed the black bars.

I'll sell you mine. I also have the OEM tail lights for sale. I bought replacement ones as part of my "black out" badging.

 

yeah I think have the outside of the grill and the straight bar is too much cement.
