I've been shopping for a 3rd gen (2020+ for CarPlay & power seats) and the toyota certified gold prices are just tough to swallow. Recently I learned a lot of people trade in Tacomas at other dealers (chevy, ford, dodge) to get full sized trucks, and those dealers seem a bit more hungry to sell. Anyways... My first choice is a

2023 TRD OR DCLB with 33k miles

Mostly stock but has a tonneau cover, weather tech mats, and predator tube steps

I don't need more truck than a 4x4 SR5, but TRD OR is pretty sweet

Carfax is clean. Not certified, but all service records are listed in the 'my toyota care' site when i plug in the VIN, feeling good about that.

    Listed at $36,997

agreed to $33,999 out the door. Fees/taxes/etc included

Kinda feels like the best deal I'm going to find, but for some reason I'm on the fence, mostly because my 2nd gen is working fine, has been for 3 years, and this truck feels too nice.

I'm feeling some anxiety about not making the jump while the 2020-2023 have low miles, and aren't all bought up. Thoughts? Recent experiences? Opinions? Yes? No?

Seems like a good price compared to what I've seen in my area. You can still buy a Toyota platinum warranty for it since its under 36K miles. 2nd gens are great but lack some of the newer stuff. If you can live with it drive it till it dies and save the monthly money.

I'd sell my mother to the Taliban for that deal.

That sounds suspiciously too good to be true. I’m almost skeptical there isn’t something hiding there.

Now is the floor for valuation on a used Tacoma, and they start rebounding in valuation soon.

Wait… is this 2wd? I’m just confused by your post because you’re talking about a 4x4 Sr5 when referencing the 2023 TRD OR. If it’s 2wd that explains more of the lower price point that seemed suspicious to me.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
That's what I was thinking. Ran into this myself when shopping a year ago.
There are 2wd trd models which I didn't even know until looking at what was a stupid low truck the sales guy linked me

If the one OP is looking at is 4 wheel drive it's probably already gone lol granted no real bad history with it.

Ok, I found your truck (toilet time at my job). I’m not going to post the details because I think that’s greasy if someone comes in from under you. It is 4x4

    Pros:

+++Silver paint. Toyota silver is a 3-stage paint (as is all the metallic colors) which ultimately means the paint is a little thicker. Will it still be subjected to clearcoat issues down the road? Probably. But it probably won’t be as bad as some of the other colors. It’s 4x4. I didn’t think I’d need it but ended up using it a lot last month. Glad I had it.

+Long bed, TRD Off-road, no sunroof (everyone wants one but people rarely use them and then they potentially leak), led headlights, bed cover, predator steps, all pluses for most people.

    Cons:

-automatic. Maybe that’s your thing, maybe that’s not an issue. Cloth seats, which are completely fine so I barely consider this a negative.

    Market valuation:

KBB puts the area of the dealership at 36.5-40, which seems a little high to be honest. Private party for that area is still pretty strong at 35.5-39, which still seems high to me for a 2wd. They been sitting on the car about a month now and have had 3 price drops, so they are aggressively trying to offload it. Maybe that’s because it’s a Chevy dealer. Cargurus used car prices trends have the 2023s in a decline (8% 1yr) but this time is generally the floor from the end of year sale used car inventory influx. This is a good time to pull the trigger if everything is right. Prices statistically will start climbing again soon most likely (supply and demand settles), and if the new Tacomas get any bad press again people will jump back in these more aggressively.

I'm confused...are you asking about the Gen 3 (yes, good deal), or whether you should leave your Gen 2 behind?
Here's my take; When I left Kauai a few years ago I sold my '13 Gen 2, which I had purchased new, because I thought it didn't make sense to ship it over the Pacific. Turns out, I was wrong.
But, if it's just Gen 3 pricing you're curious about, check out this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-was-your-recent-purchase-price-for-a-used-3rd-gen.829990/
Edit: I found it too; it's a "basic" OR, meaning no tech/premium package, but at the price you were quoted it's a great deal.

Wait, you have a perfectly good 2nd Gen truck? Assuming the 2nd Gen is fully paid for and you will be financing the 3rd Gen, it would be an idiotic financial decision to do this. But as my Financial Advisor likes to say, some financial decisions are emotional! Choose wisely.
