    cons.
    No benefits
    1 hour commute
sit at a desk all day.

I just got offered a job back in the coal industry...not production but in warehouse.

    Pros
    17min commute
    full paid benefits
    work time is either 6am-4pm or 4am - 2pm
    21 an hour

    cons
    work every other saturday

Go for the benies and more family time man, that is until we can get socialized healthcare going and kill the manipulative pharma monopolies.

Mu uncle works at a coal plant makes good money if from nothing other than lots and lots of overtime.

I guess depending on how much your health insurance is, the 71k/year job is the better option financially.

Also, the warehouse job will cause your body to wear down (at least from my experience) and end up costing more in the long run when it comes to maintaining your health. Whereas the desk job will keep your body from getting abused daily, and all you have to do in return is maintain a moderately disciplined exercise regiment. But I know from personal experience that leaving at 6:30 and coming back at 6:30 makes Johnny a tired boy indeed....

Idk, man...i guess thats just my .02

I pay 827 a month for health insurance...no vision or dental and it's not even good.

1 kid...1 possibly on the way or hope so soon.

If you count in the overtime...deduct insurance and the little savings on gas...it's about the same bottom line.

Take a good hard look at what you want and foresee your life to be like over the next 10 years.

IF it is going to take your income... plan accordingly. If you can thrive off of your $21/ hour job and be happy and healthy with all your bills paid; easy decision. Look down the road at where you want to be, so when you get down the road, you don't question the path you took.

    Oh look, another mod....
That would be a $27k pay cut if you take the coal job. That is over $2k per month you are taking out of your pocket.

But factor this in: Free medical, you spend less time driving to work, you spend less money on gas, your vehicle depreciates slower because you drive less, less maintenance on your vehicle because you drive it less (oil changes, tuneups, car washes) you have MORE time to spend with your family because you spend less time driving to and from work, etc...

Think about the long term picture.

Stability is a good thing for a family man.

The coal industry is going away man. By the end of 2028 coal units are required to run an SCR on top of the already expensive Gas Scrubber they had to install before the baghouse. We are shutting down all our coal units. It just doesn't make sense to keep them open.

What do you think this will do the everyone in the coal industry? We have already shut down 3 coal units of 4. My organization absorbed all the employees into other areas or they retired. Not all companies do that.

Now if you don't have to pay something pre-tax out of your pay for benefits that might be doable.

Maybe even one up it...and look for something outside of both coal industry and what you do now....

Go for the benefits and less commute. If the coal industry is on it's last leg then keep an eye out for something better. The grass is always greener but it sounds like you don't enjoy your current job so a move might be a catalyst for something better and more permanent.

Is $21 an hour after tax deductions, healthcare, and anything else the government takes out?

Yeah getting paid every two weeks I figure about 68k per year before tax...but I'm no longer paying for insurance...making the commute...or getting home super late. Re
ally the only downside is adding in all the saturdays

I'm taking the coal job for now...

I can't see myself selling parts in 10 years...the car industry is changing so fast.
I can't see myself sitting behind a desk...or not getting home until 630 everynight. Enough time to eat dinner, give my kids a bath and put them in bed.
Plus it's all commision it's very cut throat.

The coal job leads to the warehouse manager job...which could lead to other oppurtunities down the road.

Factoring in the gas..not paying insurance...the bottom line is the same. money wise.

    Coal job.
Benefits are HUGE. I pay for mine put of my pocket as a small business owner, and they coverage is shit. You'll have more time at home, less driving.

Yep, they pay Health, vision, and dental.

My current plan is 827 and it's a short term plan from blue cross...health only. It's so bad that If I were to break my arm or something I would just pay out of pocket it would be cheaper.
