I have my doubts about using 0w 20 oil in hot heather and did a little checking . I went to the Toyota of Europe site and looked in a manual for the hilux because they do not have a tacoma over the pond. Turns out they have only diesels in them that I could see, So I looked up the 2016 Rav4
In the USA Rav4 ,manual it is just like the Tacoma and says to use 0W20 for everything . 5w? can be used if you have to but put in 0W20 at next change.
In the Europe manual it also says 0W20 is recommended But just like USA manuals of years ago, it gives the use of 5W30 and 10W30 for temps above 0 degrees F . It also says 20W50 can be used at higher temps.
I also read another article that says 0W20 was tested in Europe but was not recommended because of premature wear on the engine especially under loads like towing etc. even though it gave a little better mpg. After today I am convinced that the 0w20 oil is just for passing the epa mpg standards and not for the good of the engine . I tried to post a link but it is not downloading right now but it is not hard to find if anyone wants to verify it.

CAFE standards are getting tight. Manufacturers are doing everything they can for any MPG. Oil weight, aerodynamics, tires, etc

if you choose to run something other than what's in the manual, then you wave your right to complain about it if something goes wrong in 100k miles.

That is true . I would have to deal at the time . I do know I get a lot of my summer in the 90's and over 100 and just cannot see using 20 weight oil in that kind of weather .

This isn't 1970. Engines are designed to run on whatever oil is reccomended in the manual

Seriously, another? If you're really worried about it, run 0w30 or 5w30. I'll let you in a secret, 0w oil is always full synthetic which always costs more. Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

I understand that . My point is why is the same engine for a Rav4 in Europe recommended to run different oil than here in the states ?

Because a Tacoma in the US isn't a RAV4 in Europe. RAV4 is not d4s, is it?

That's pointless. That's not even an engine option for a Tacoma.

Chevy trucks take 0w20, so my Tacoma should too
