I've been wanting a Tacoma for a long time and finally had enough a windfall to give me quite a few options. I thought about new vs. used and waffled back and forth about what I really needed(Poke around Oregon hunting and fishing with light 4x4 duty) and what I wanted (A TRD sticker).

I drove a couple of new trucks, a couple of used trucks, and finally I saw a 98 hit craigslist that had a lot of miles... 222,000 of them. But it was really affordable and "Full Service Records" and "Only run on AMSOIL" really caught my eye. So I went out to talk to the owner. Classic Oregon outdoorsperson, the kind I try to be like. He pulled out the little notebook from the glove box, and there were the records... 190,000 miles and 16 years of them. All of the stuff that I read about and scared me about high mileage 1st gens was in there and taken care of. I drove it and was super impressed. Heck, it even had the BFGs on it that I would buy myself. Went home, pulled the most boring carfax in the world and made an offer.

    Now I've got a Tacoma.

Super basic truck. 4x4 SR5, 2.7l, manual transmission, extended cab.

I went through the notes and receipts. In 225k miles it had one headgasket, one powersteering pump, a radiator, and three starters. Oddly enough it still has the original clutch and alternator.
