I'm in the process of buying a 2004 Tacoma,2X4, V6 XtraCab with TRD/SR5, a hefty 27,000 original miles and still running original brakes and tires. It had the frame check - no problems, clean Carfax, and has a near perfect body. Should pick it up early next week.

Anything else I need to be aware of?

The truck will be my knock-around vehicle. Will do some light hauling - dirt and mulch, building and gardening supplies, etc. for our old horse farm.

I am a retired Army colonel - 26 years active and retired at the end of 2003 having spent my last 6 years in the DC area at the National War College and assigned to the Pentagon. Now working as the executive vice president at a small two-year private college.

Looking forward to learning more about my Taco and ways I can improve it.

wow...awesome career. sounds like it's in damn good shape for the age/miles. passing frame was the major thing on the 1st gens i believe.

Sounds like you got a great low mileage Taco!!...just keep up on yor frame maint. and she will last forever......I hit all surface rust areas on the frame welds with Fluid Film as well as Krown Rust Treatment once a year.

As Neil Young said...Rust never sleeps!

You will love your truck...great choice!

Cool! Thanks! As I was searching for one, I found one that had a full frame replacement - at that point I wasn't aware of the issue so I assumed it had been in an accident. Still, glad I held out for this one.
