You probably seriously need to go get checked out by someone with a "Dr" prefix in front of their name.
    That, or find a hobby.

Lol that is a hypocritical post. You don't care what others use or their interval but you started a thread on the subject. If you didn't care what others thought you wouldn't post.
Lastly, if you are filtering to 2 micron you are filtering the additives out of the oil. Germs ar 4 micron and there is nowhere in that engine where a particle that small would cause and issue.

So many haters out here. Nice write up! I probably won't ever go to such lengthy measures but I can appreciate the process.

Clearly you are INCORRECT sir and apparently don’t comprehend what you read. Why don’t you re-read post #77 and reevaluate your thoughts.

Sure. The post is a part share-type-of-thing where some might take a single idea from it or someone’s comment. I know I’ve learned something from it and will modify what I’ll do going forward.

Ok. I’m ditching that idea and I’ll get a shaker to lubricate the engine during the periods of no vehicle use. Thanks for the inspiration! Always advancing the ball.

Complete honesty here? If I were looking at two identical trucks, but you explained your oil maintenance process to me... I'd seriously walk away from your truck. I'd take it as evidence that you're crazy and couldn't keep your fingers out of it, and you'renot someone I want to deal with... that might not be reality, but that's the impression it would give me.

I hope you enjoy tinkering with your truck, but if you think you're adding longevity or care, I think you're mistaken...

Also, if TW has taught me anything, it's that you'll get T-boned in an intersection long before mileage is an issue for that motor. The odds just aren't in your favor.

Not to mention, ICE vehicles will be paper weights, long before your miles are a factor.

Regardless, carry on doing what makes you happy, and like always, TW will be here to mock you for it.

And it sounds like you will give me ODDS too with your comment of “the odds just aren’t in your favor”, lol. Wow- I’ll play you in poker ANY DAY. They have a term for people like you- FISH.

Every 5k change my oil. Never check between changes. Don’t even check the dipstick after putting the required amount of oil in. Drive another 5k and do it again. 4 Toyotas over 400k miles. Easy peasy!!!

Another part of this 'wet' oil, is that water and combustion by-products mix to create acids. I have rolled out lower bearings on generator engines and seen how these acids eat into the lower bearing shell.

When the engine is idled the combustion pressures are lower. This pressure is used to force the piston rings against the cylinder liner walls. When the pressure is low like at idle, more combustion by-products get pushed passed the rings and contaminate the oil even farther. This contamination then eats up the additives in to oil that are there to protect a normal amount of contaminants. An idling engine would fall into severe engine duty and require more frequent service intervals as a result.

But you are going to think of me every time you change your oil now, lol.
