https://www.nhtsa.gov/equipment/air-bags Some pretty good info since I was curious. Apparently if there is any give in what you are hitting they don't deploy. Unless a high rate of speed provides the energy required.

No, no, no. We were going in opposing directions. I was going east, turning south, he was going west. As far as the test, he told me that they do the field test in all injury accidents (though in this case the injuries were bumps and bruises). He asked if we had been drinking and I truthfully told him I had had a beer at dinner (we were just going home from dinner and grocery shopping). That and I'm blind in my left eye and slightly cross-eyed. I get DUI tested every time I get pulled over, though it's been 20+ years since the last time that happened.

Edit - I take that back. I did get pulled over a few years ago riding my bike, though the cop wanted to ask me about it, not give me a ticket. He could of given me a ticket because I had flashing strobe led brake lights. He was totally cool though and just told me how to make them only flash a couple times since he had the same lights. I have a BMW F800GS and he had a F650GS and was thinking of upgrading.

Also, to be clear, the cops were not assholes at all. They were just doing their job. It's old to have someone think you're drunk because you're eye's are slightly crossed (well, the left one is), but I do understand where they are coming from. I wasn't upset at all that they took me in.

Do they offer you an opportunity to blow into a Portable Breath Test where you are located?

Yea I got that, and I understand they usually place blame on anyone making a left turn, even if it’s suspected someone blew a light. They want you to basically yield going into the intersection.

It’s a shitty situation but could of been a lot worse. I’m just curious as to why they wanted to the OP to do field sobriety tests. Understandable the assume the other driver had the right of way unless of course he truly did run the red light. Was there any witnesses to the accident? If so that should backed the OP. But even so an accident is an accident. They happen. Police usually don’t just assume someone is under the influence because an accident occurred, that’s what I’m getting at

Damn. Hope everyone's alright. Buy a bumper! It'll save most of your truck.
I'm still having to deal with this vv

Got it now. Thanks for clearing it up. Wasn’t trying to accuse you of anything. I was kinda thinking maybe it had to do with injuries, but yes anytime you admit to any consumption they will want to administer a field test

Just for comparison. This is what a 10 on 30mph crash looks like. Not bad for an old truck, bumper saved the goodies.

LOL, I just realized the accident would not have happened as described. I was turning North, not south. jeez, I didn't think I hit my head...

Screw a bumper, I’d rather have the shit totaled and get a new truck

I wish I'd had a plate bumper on it. My '09 probably would have driven over the guy. Wish I'd gotten pics of his, but I was making sure everyone was ok, calling 911 and then the cops were there and questioning me.

It's not going to be easy. The Blue ones are rare around here now.

Absolutely man. Yeah this just happened the previous week. Got to be careful though because I guarantee had I been a few inches closer to this older woman's door she probably wouldn't have walked out of it.

Depends what you have invested in the truck. Clearly I'm talking to owners of newer trucks. Just showing a comparison of what it can protect.

I’d still be hoping they total it. A lot of vehicles aren’t the same after a crash. If may be hard to find another pro in that color, and maybe you won’t be able to get another one, but I’d rather have a truck that drives true than something that’s a little off.

Go eat some Ibuprofen or Tylenol now and get some rest. Tomorrow you’re probably gonna be sore. Count your blessing and be thankful it wasn’t a full T-bone. That would of been really ugly.

Sorry for your truck and your knee.

Side questions what is the sobriety test in your region like ? The old walk the line touch your nose BS we see in movies or they have real ethylometers/breathalyzer test like we have here?
