My 2005 base Tacoma (automatic 4cyl) recently threw a p0500 code, resulting in a brake warning light, an abs light, a check engine light, and a nonfunctioning speedometer and heater/ ac fan. I replaced the vss and rear abs sensors and did a pretty thorough job of checking for loose connections and blown fuses, all to no avail. Does the loss of the fan indicate any particular direction to go next?

I can’t think of a reason the fan would be associated with the p0500.
Hopefully for your sake, it’s not the actual gauge cluster that went bad.

IG1 No2 Fuse is in common.

Check it with a meter don't trust your eyes.

Thank you so much, Jimmyh. It was a blown ig1 #2 fuse! I was concerned about the reason for the blown fuse, but shortly thereafter found that my blower motor had provided a comfortable home for a family of mice. Everything works perfectly now! Thank you again.
