It is the one with the Red/Blue wire. Should I try a smaller paper clip? I was careful not to force it.

You want to be in the terminals but you never want to use anything that is larger than the mating male teminals.

Ok, so I used a much smaller wire, and indeed you were right, the paper clip was too big. When I jump the cable it drops to 0v, and if I remove the jumper it goes back up to 12v.

Does this implicate that the 4wd switch is the issue since the circuit is fine when it is bypassed?

No, we should see 0v at the 4wd ECU on pin 22 with the terminals at the switch connector jumped, the fact that we still have battery voltage (providing your jumper was making good contact) means we have a broken wire.

I tried again with a smaller pin and the voltage dropped to 0V when jumped. When you said that the clip was too big I realized I was a dumbass and went back to check with a much smaller wire.

Then that suggests the switch is bad, you can check it with an ohm meter. It should have continuity between the terminals when the ball on the end is depressed.

Strangely, when I test for continuity between the terminals I get "OL" when the ball is unpressed, and a beep for continuity when I press down the ball. So that means the switch is ok?

Ayayay... I had to remove the other switch(L4) in order to get to the 4wd switch with a wrench, and then I put it back in. I was concerned I may have measured the wrong switch, so I went back and pulled the other switch. When I tested the continuity, it failed continuity when depressed with a reading of 150ohms. Then I went and pulled the first switch (ostensibly the 4wd switch) and tested it again and it is now failing continuity when depressed (again ~150-300ohm). So does this mean both switches should be replaced? Thanks so much for your help Dm93, you've probably saved me a huge headache and tons of money.

Certainly wouldn't hurt if their operation is in doubt, do note their locations and that they are different part numbers.

I believe the pictured switch is the right one (4wd), but I can't find the L4 switch part #.Screenshot 2024-10-15 at 10.50.29 PM.png

It's not clear on the diagram which one is which but looks like the numbers are:

Yeah, seems so. Thanks again! I'll update once I get the parts.

@Dm93 Thanks so much. The switch did it and now my 4wd is working well! Now I have to figure out how to get the new breather tube I bought attached to the front part of the transfer case. It seems like it's in a tricky position to get to.
