Minnesota is one place i had never taken my truck to in the winter, only summers, but it had been in WI and IL once and awhile in the past and all over Iowa

and have never heard of FF until signing into TW, just the rubber undercoating stuff

yeah.....not sure what to do at this point. I am going to need to get something else asap but this could be a project for another day. Maybe gut it and part it i guess would make the most sense.

I guess i am in the market for something around 2014/2015 at this point. I might stick with the tacoma. I love that truck. I am not familar with anything newer than my 2004.

recall vs extended warranty is often confusing terminology, it happens!

I'd fix it 1000 bux worth and hope someone else makes another small truck before it's a goner.

Seems like the Auto Rust option would be the most viable (and economical) one you have. I priced new frames out for standard cab first gens and they start at around $3400 dollars not including shipping. Another forum member stated that if you remove everything yourself and have the fabricator do just the welding you could save a substantial amount. In the end its still a bite in the wallet. Sorry..

once you do frame work...the car is basically garbage. You can never resell it. Nobody would want it. OF course nobody would want it now either :)

I wonder what a fabricator would charge to weld in a frame rail per the post above....
I could remove the box easy enough but that doesnt get me around any problems getting to work in 16 hours. THat is my first priority.

    Not confusing.

Warranty comes with the vehicle, from the factory, to cover defects for a certain time frame for a variety of non-consumables.

Recall, works in the same manner as a warranty, but is presented separately as a specific number of units were reported as either faulty, dangerous, etc. which warranted repairing/replacing said item regardless of the factory warranty that came with the vehicle.

"Extended warranty" does not exist and normally falls under a "recall" if a specific item, or set of parts is covered by the manufacturer for a longer period of time than the factory standard warranty.

And those things people pay for to gain the same coverage the vehicle comes with but for an extended period of time? That's called a vehicle service contract.

Just uninformed people using the wrong verbiage, that's all.

Similar to when someone types there vs their, or your vs you're.

right. I inquired about that back in 2018....maybe it was 2017. Dont know. Doesnt matter. They said i wasnt covered since it was brought back to the dealership early in its life under recall and had been sprayed to prevent it. Further they said my VIN wasnt on the list of vins that were covered. I was very dissapointed. Its not like they used different frames or metals or whatever at a different point in 2004 where my vin was built. Its pointless to talk to them. The coverage was through 2019 even if it was covered. Nobody gives a shit about a 16 year old truck at the dealership. They will sell you a new one. Thats about it. Its a business. Thats what they do. If they dont make money on it....they are not interested in it. Its a waste of their time.

yes! Agree, dont waste on Safe cap... patch here and patch there , blah..etc , either you sell it full disclousure or do you really like the truck so then Start looking for a good frame, clean and protect with nice new products out there in and out and Do the Transplant / Swap. At your expense... not much options you have now... sorry 4 ur loss, but Toyota Screw us all by not making a Recall as it should, ... oh well

same...i cant afford to yell at them any longer. Its pointless. Its just a heart attack waiting to happen on my end. My truck runs flawless too. I am so bummed but ill need so find some different wheels here shortly to get to work for the short term at least. Whats done is done....doesnt pay to get worked up about it i guess.

    Where do you live

There is nothing that can`t be brought back to life.

The question is it economical if you can`t do the work yourself or a big share most likely not.

If it is only the shock mount they get torn out all the time I bet I replaced 25 or so the last 20 years

If I took pictures of the Tacoma here now so many would say junk the truck .

The work I do Gratis on these trucks

ill have to sit on it and think on it. Its probably somthing that can be fixed...and i have all the tools to do it and know a fabricator and welder.....just no time. I have a job and i work 10 - 12 hours every day. I need to get there...thats priority 1. I have projects from 20 years ago i havent even started because of work. They dont tell you when you are a kid that you wont have time for family, friend or anything.....but you will work until they find you useless.

Thats about where i am at. It will go on the maybe some day pile for now.

I can't argue against your premise if the ultimate plan is selling. However, if you want to keep a Taco 1 running and you're not planning on selling it to someone, Safe-T-Cap is an option.
In Texas there are probably options to secure a rust free donor frame. I live in Cleveland where it snows 4-5 months out of the year and the local municipalities and the state drop tons of salt on all our roads non-stop. There's no avoiding it. We have to make lemonade out of used lemons. That often means (Auto-Rust) Safe-T-Cap.
I get your point though. You can chase good money after bad if your frame reaches the point of no return.
