Another slip yoke grease dilemma

Hey all,

I was planning on greasing my slip yoke as well as the rest of my driveshaft again to prep for a trip. I greased my slip yoke before but only a few pumps as I read if you fill it up too much it will hydraulic and damage stuff. My question is:

I will pull the shaft out of the slip yoke, clean it up and regrease it, but when I reinstall it, remove the zerk, and pack extra grease in it and slide the joint all the way in and expel all the extra grease? That way, if I do bottom out it won’t hydraulic and it has as much grease in it as it can take without causing damage? Makes sense in my head but not sure if that’s how it works.

Be sure to mark both ends of the shaft to properly reinstall so you don't have balance issues.

Appreciate it man! I watched the videos which didn’t really explain my question about pushing the slip yoke all the way in to relieve the pressure so when it compresses it doesn’t hydraulic. I went out and did it today and found that when you do this it evacuates the entire little cavity of grease so you’re basically getting rid of a huge portion of what you just put in. I did it to get rid of the old grease and when I had new grease coming out I regreased the splines and put it all back together and pumped 3-4 pumps of grease in the reinstalled zerk to have a little extra in there. It compressed fully, is completely greased and all the grease is new in it.
