    As long as it’s not heavy, these tailgates are weak. Bed extender works good and are cheap

    That’s good as long as the latches lock.
    I know a guy that used WD40 to lube his latches, thinking he was doing a good thing.
    The stuff gummed up and wouldn’t latch fully unless you really slammed the tail gate.

    Point is, the latches can look locked, but aren’t.
    Give the tailgate a good “lift and drop” to make sure the latches are locked.

    BTW, that guy was me.
    I used rubbing alcohol to clean up the latches, and then used dry lube.

    FWIW it’s common dealer practice to use WD40 for stuff like that.
    Idk if frequent application flushes out any dirt

    but yes there are pricier sprays on the market that may work better
    I think Wurth has a few specifically designed for stuff like this
