I quite literally think that all of SoCal Tacomaworld is on standby for a recovery of the recovery team. My rig is ready to go if needed. I have tomorrow off. I could think of many worse things to do.

@goblue82 and Robin ( his nickname beCause I've never met him) are examples of why I continue to have faith in humanity. Good guys no doubt. Greg, if you're coming down for the SD Thursday meet anytime soon, your beers are on me!

I talked to goblue at 1030 and set up the arrangement in Big Pine at 1pm. If they aren't in contact by 5 I'm going to check how many tire tracks are going down North Pass.

gotcha, but would be it possible if they tried to come in from the Eureka Dunes side towards the Hot Springs

That's the only way from the north side. The people I hitch hiked out with said north pass was snow bound. When we drove by it there was around 6in of snow on it with a single set of tracks going down.

^This is a great community and this is one of the many reasons why it is so!

I'm getting my junk ready just in case as I type this. Won't be the first time for me recovering a TW'er that I've never met before and it certainly won't be the last either.

Go to your local welding shop and buy a couple dollar temp stick.
Looks like a crayon , they sell them in different degrees , 300-400-600 etc.
Get a 400 , heat with a torch , occasionally touch the stick to the metal , when it melts your at 400*
I would also pick up ( cheap) K-O Wool , kind of like insulation , its white.
After welding is done , heat everything back up with the torch , then wrap it in the k o wool. Slow cool down ( hour or 2) and it will stress relieve the piece.

I see many on the forum talk about how easy it is to weld. Welding .... and being a Welder are two different things.
I did pipe welding for a career, Steamfitter.
I learned to weld after lots of practice. I learned to be a Welder after many years of technique.

I hope this helps answer your question , and also expand your knowledge base :)

I need to learn my Ham now , got a license but just learning.

I'm watching to see the mystery of "What Happened " with the rendezvous?

    Very cool Help !!

It's been drizzling with some rain here and there since 1pm. The storm that is running through here came in Sunday afternoon.

Going that way throws in a monkey wrench into the problem, so now there are 2 potential routes that they may have taking and both routes covers a lot mileage. Plus the remote possibility of them taking the North Pass just for the adventure of breaking trail in the snow.

Sounds like a Greg thing, if you ask me. I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

Something I would do for sure, being the first to break trail is awesome.

Also true. A bit bizzare. Like you said earlier in here, he was pretty gung-ho about getting out there as fast as he could, maybe he said screw it, lets just get there and fix the truck and go back to get him? Who knows. Hopefully we hear word from them within the next few hours.

Yeah, I find it weird that TC doesn't mention anything about heat up/cool down yet a lot of people are recommending it. I am definitely curious how others are doing it and if/how the way I did mine led to the premature failure.

Anyway to leave a signal for them if they happen to miss you at your current spot? Old survival trick is to make and large arrow on the ground out of rocks pointing in the direction you are headed. That way if they get to your current location, at least they know which way you went. Maybe flag it somehow- hankey or papertowel or something.

TC assumes you know what your doing. They could go crazy answering questions about welding from ametures.
I'm not claiming to be a know it all about welding but .... I do know allot.
Heck , I just learned it's necessary to preheat and stress relieve Spindles from you!
I did X ray quality welds in Nuclear plants , which is no small feat.
Nothing like garage welding , but the principals apply.

I wish you all the luck getting your truck back.
I often wondered about what I'm gonna do when SHTF , I'm alone allot.
    Your learning me.
Did you take them off the truck to weld ?
I would agree that not relieving them is the cause , or part of it.
