There is a permanent camp host that lives at the Springs who has radio access with the Park Rangers for emergencies only.

Highly recommend the Delorme inReach. I love mine. 2-way text messaging/emailing from it, unlike the Spot which is one way only.

Either one would work fine then. I like the ability to send a message to someone in a non-emergency situation if I'm weathered in but just running a day late. Don't really have that option with the Spot, unless they've come out with new features recently. Mine is also a backup GPS when I link it to my iPhone/iPad with their free app and any map you can think of.

Ive always wanted to buy a Delorme inreach for these sort of situations.. might invest in one.

This is why i bring a SAT phone. Potentially could have come in pretty handy in this situation.

Kinda confused as to why they would have just left and gone to the truck without @tetten if there was a planned meeting time and place. Make a plan then stick to it.
Definitely props to them for heading out to help, for sure, but that sounds pretty stupid to me. Also, sucks for OP rhat he is basically stuck helpless just waiting around. Hope they all get in contact and this gets resolved.

I just snapped my spindle on a trail in San Diego. Luckily my buddy was in the truck behind me so I could get home then go back the next day to fix it. I feel your pain about walking away from your rig. Terrible feeling.

They called, phone cut out a bit, but what I got was they had to exit Saline Valley over South Pass, AKA Hunter Mountain.

They said they got stuck in snow, not sure where though and ended up going over South Pass.

They are outside Lone Pine, Greg is going to call back with what he wants to do, probably going to get a hotel room for the night. Still working out the details. Shane is probably headed home.

It's going to be a bit of a drive to get to you, they'll get better cell coverage once they get around the Coso Range and closer to Highway 136

APRS works great. But both stations have to be up and running to talk.

If there was a repeater i knew they were monitoring could possibly Echo link into and talk to them from Wyo..

Or there is HiFi stuff too.
