So I've finally got the go ahead from my wife to buy the truck that I've always wanted. Of course the problem is, it can't be bought from the dealer. My ideal truck is a Tacoma, crew cab, 4x4, 6spd with the Off Road package, but with a hood scoop. And from what I've read on this site, this is what alot of folks wish Toyota would sell.

Some background on what I'll be using this for...

I don't off road at all, but NJ does get some pretty wicked snow storms from time to time. Because of this, I figured the locker would be of pretty good use. Other than that, I hunt alot but even then, I'm rarely off road.

I'm leaning towards getting the sport as I figure it would be cheaper to get and install a locker afterwards, if I should need it, than it would to get the hood scoop.

    Thoughts?

You won't need a locker for snow storms, 4wd will get you where you need to go. The sport does have some electronic traction aids to help you out anyways. If you like the looks of the Sport, go for it, I don't think you'll miss not having the locker unless you get into off roading situations that require it.

Sounds like the TRD Sport would be more suited for you man. You should be fine the snow w/ just the 4x4.

I can't get a DCLB... 6spd's only come with the short bed. And while many of you guys love auto transmissions, I'd rather shoot myself than own one.

I have it all but the fake scoop. The 6-speed OR's are hard to come by. That's why I have mine, couldn't resist...

I said the exact same thing. Never owned an automatic in my life.

Then I drove the 6spd manual Taco.

    I now own an Auto.

The 6th gear in the Taco is USELESS.

I'm glad you guys with the autos are happy. But for me, it's not negotiable... 6spd only.

I live in northern Vt in the mountains,
    From Pt. Pleasant.
I had the same dilemma and from time to time think about the off road.
I have driven in 20+ inches before plows hit the roads with no problems.
I never off road but the places I go for fishing, boating etc. some would say I do.
I have never needed a locker and never see a need for one with my usage of the truck.
If this sounds like your situation get the sport and don't look back.

either way, sounds like you want the sport.

    have fun.

That's exactly what I have, except from 2008 (and of course without the hood scoop).

Why not just get the Off Road package and then put a scooped hood on it later? That's my plan.

You could wait until this fall for the TRD Pro. All the off road goodies and the scoop!
