I just got a manual dcsb off road. I drove the auto first and like you decided it would not be for me. Is it as good a manual transmission as my rsx, no but if you like manuals I don't think you'll be disappointed. Also my first tank of gas mpg was 17. I went with off road package because I wasn't spending that kind of money on an appearance package for a truck, and figured stuff that actually does something would be better for me (just my opinion).

Can a short bed fulfill your needs? If not, your not getting a manual double cab offroad.

I would think so. Unfortunately for me, finding this truck is becoming extremely difficult. There are like zero dealers around here that carry one. It's starting to look like I'm going to have to buy one sight unseen.

Before you go thinking that I won't be continuing my search so I can try one out, I can assure you that I will try to find one; even if it's an auto. That's not to say that would ever consider buying an auto. It'll give me an opportunity to see how the how the truck feels as a whole, but it will leave the transmission as an open concern. Barring that, let me ask you, what would you do? You want a specific truck and it's non-existent for a test drive. There simply are none around. What do you do?

Not sure which part of the state your in but there is a larger dealership in the southern part of the state Liberty Toyota usually has a decent inventory. Holman in Cherry Hill is hit or miss. I haven't bought form either of the two. I'm not sure how they are to deal with

I owned a '13 tacoma with the automatic and hated it. Now have a '14 Tacoma Off Road 6 speed and I love it. If that stupid downshifting thing in the auto could have been disabled it wouldn't have been as bad... As for gas mileage I've only lost 1 mpg (last tank was 19.7mpg) going from auto to stick, so don't let them scare you with that.

FYI, if it downshifted and you didnt want it to downshift... half a second to grab the shift lever and to a quick D-4th-D flip and it will bring the tranny back up a gear.

I think your better off with a Sport in my opinion. For the driving your doing it sounds perfect. I myself wanted an Off Road automatic. I wanted the locker, A-Trac, and Hill descent control. I use my truck daily for commuting, hauling, towing, and use it off road. I love how A-trac works off pavement and the locker is a BIG plus when the trail gets tricky. Lockers are amazing off pavement it just crawls through everything drama free mostly. I also like the fact that the TRD comes with the SR5 tow package which adds a few heavier duty accessories. Here in the NE it took me a while to find a good TRD OR, most are Sports.

I just checked Liberty's and Holman's websites; no dice. None of the crew cab Tacomas are manuals.

I don't know anybody who thinks that way.

Don't know why some people that drive autos seem to be so defensive about it. Different strokes for different folks I guess. There are advantages to both.
