Curious if you'll have to cut the plastic on the back of the seat...

Well the JL W3 came today. Too bad I didn't pay attention to the mounting depth and it won't fit in the box I bought. Trying to work something out now with the seller. He has a Rockford Fosgate shallow mount sub that will work. So I had hoped to have some pics up tonight but its gonna be a while longer.

Sorry about your luck, maybe he'll make it right for you. That is the main reason I went with the two 8s. Keep us posted. Also, on a side note, I'd throw in some hollow-fill in that box before mounting the sub, just my .02.

Ok, I sent the JL back just now and the Fosgate is already on the way. I think it'll be Tuesday before I get it. The seller was cool about it, but I gotta pay a 15% restock fee. Understandable though, that's what I get I guess. The Fosgate sub was cheaper anyway so I'm actually getting a few dollars back.

I'm familiar with polyfill and what it does but its been a while since I've bought any. Whats the best place to get some? Thanks

I had some left from a project some time ago, and used that, not sure where it came from, but I bet Wally-World has it, if not Hobby Lobby or any fabric shop should stock it.

The shallow mount sub came yesterday. I got everything installed and tuned a little late last night. Its not the prettiest install on TW but sound and fit wise its exactly what I was looking for. I suck with a camera but I took a few pics along the way. Thanks again to everyone for their help and input.

I cut the right side of the box off, leaving the other side and the amp rack.

I still have enough room on the drivers side for an emergency tool kit and portable compressor

478DblSport, I didn't have to cut the plastic on the back of the seat. However it is a snug fit due to the WO seat covers. Did you pull the trigger yet on the JL box?

Yes I did... only after making a cardboard mock-up and feeling pretty confident it would fit. I had to cut the shelf off the storage compartment (passenger side) and trim the lip along the front to allow for the sub grill but other than that it fits great & I still retained some useful storage area on that side. I'm still piecing my system together so I can't comment on the sound and I don't have any pic's either at this time but will post to this thread when I do.

I will say, since I deadened the rear panel the road noise has been reduced considerably. Now I realize more noise coming from around me instead of behind me. I'm looking forward to deadening the doors and hearing the difference that makes.

Damn man, I'm jealous! That was my first choice but Crutchfield talked me out of it. Glad it worked for you and I'd love to see some pics whenever you get the time.

I added some pic's to my post above... they're from my cell phone but I think they render enough detail to be useful to anyone else considering this sub. I plan to mount my amp under the seat, but there might be enough room to mount an amp next to the sub..? Anyways thanks, when you committed to "get-r-done" it inspired me to do something otherwise I'd probably still be in the considering mode.

Nice work to both of you!

My preference is for a sealed box, but the JBL is a great option.

On the double cab double sub box option, more good work. My plan is to do almost the same thing that you have. I will cut the other side of the box off though such that the sub is in the middle, and the amp board is on the door side.

478, That looks great and I bet it'll sound even better.

Lurkin, thanks and good luck with your install. Post up some pics when you get done.
