something dropped on it, probably from a bird. The upward push is the pressure change from when you opened your doors when you got home. Tint wouldn't do that.

Window tint does not absorb heat like that, common  If it ever absorbed enough heat for it to be detrimental, you'd be able to feel it radiating. I've had window tint in multiple vehicles for years and years and they're always way cooler in the direct sun. That myth is BUSTED.

Like others have said, you can totally hear what sounds like a motor sound right before it cracks. My wife was driving an ES350 rental and just going down the highway by herself and it shattered all over her and my dog, luckily everyone was all right but we ended up having to pay 1400 bucks out of our pockets to fix it. There wasn't anyone in front of her to throw rocks up, we just basically got screwed I think. The dealer said they've seen this many times before and they said it's from a rock bouncing on the highway and hitting your sunroof. What can you do? :angrygirl:

A tempered window in our home did the same thing. My wife heard a weird noise, looked at the window and watched it shatter. The glass guy described it as spontaneous glass breakage and said he had seen 2 in his 10 years as a glass guy prior to ours. Pretty weird.

Mechanical Engineer here. I am willing to put money on the roof motor turning on and trying to close the sunroof when it was already closed. Have the dealer check and see what position the motor is in, I bet you if they marked it then put in new glass, the motor won't go back to the marking. (Because it would have to break the glass to get there again.)

The tint reflects or directs the heat back out.Ive have felt that verses no tint. This is a double pain house window.Id think auto tint would do the same, dunno.

I ordered mine, but yes that wouldn't surprise me. I did get a line that was to the tune of "because it's not safe if there's a rollover off-road." US versions determined that was made up lol

That sunroof is AS2. Factory tinted. Same as th back door windows. All it takes is a rock to hit tempered just right and it will explode. Or rapid temp change.

I remember reading somewhere that in Canada over 500 sunroofs have randomly shattered out. Mostly in newer model Hyundais but cases are on the rise. I wonder why?

That sucks, you know how much Canadian dealers hate doing warranty work on US bought trucks.

I saw a few broken sunroofs that rained down glass on the occupants and covered them in little shards of glass when the vehicles were in moderate collisions.

I tend to keep the shade closed most of the time and really don’t use the sunroof much anyway.

That sound before the crack sure does sound awfully like the sunroof motor.

As the glass is cooled at the factory it must be cooled gradually in an oven called a lehr. Different temperature zones in the lehr gradually cool the glass for about an hour. Failure to maintain a gradual cooling will cause different stresses on the inner and outer portions of glass. When it breaks it breaks into tiny pieces. Tiny bumps or rapid changes in temperature will activate immediate and complete shattering. The OP runs into spray from a truck in front of him in the video.
