Another thinking of trading in for a tundra thread

I'm thinking seriously on trading in my 2016 trd offroad with 49000 miles for a 2014 tundra trd offroad with 38000 miles. Basically my payment will go down $100 a month but add 2 years. Originally the tacoma was my daily driver so fuel economy my a concern. Which is something it does well. A pretty consistent 22mpg. Yes like most I hate the lack of torque and transmission shifting issues. I tow a 7x12 utility trailer with a 1500lb side by side about twice a month and it feels so labored. I did the ovtune and with the 93 performance tune it's much better but I'm still not happy. However I looked at one other 2016 tundra and the underside looked like they parked it in the ocean for a year . Scale everywhere. Are those frames even more prone to rust than the Tacomas?

Yes, the Tundra will get much worse MPG, but tow like a champ.

No, their frames are no worse. Anything that lives in NJ needs attention with something like Fluid Film on a seasonal basis.

    Free food for thought.........

Trading is always a financial loss.

Basing any purchase on 'can I make the monthly payments' is an indicator of risk.

Loved my Tacoma. Traded for towing capacity is all. BTW just drove 302 miles home on interstate. Got 18.4 mpg lol about one mpg less than my Tacoma.

This is just me but if going full size it wouldn't be a Tundra.

We have a 2013 tundra 5.7 and 2019 taco. The tundra average is about 14 mpg my taco about 16.5 with a ladder rack. Power is no comparison, the 5.7 feels effortless and is smoother. The taco seems to ride a bit better but I’ve heard the 2014+ trucks have improved leaf springs. One weird observation is the exhaust on the taco is quite a bit louder, especially on shifts than the tundra.

This is the boat I'm in. When I traded in my 13 4cyl auto for the 16 v6 it was great for my 5x8 with a quad on it but now with my heavy duty 7x12 which is 1500lb empty with another 1500 on it with the side by side it really gets old driving in the mountains. Also it was my daily so the 22mpg was great .I have an old Civic beater 1996 that I picked up in a trade with 34000 original miles which does work commuting. I also have a 2003 tacoma now as well I got in another trade so I'm thinking the 16 needs to go.
