    Howdy folks,

I recorded a video of what is now a more pronounced ticking that well, hopefully ya'll can assist!

    https://youtube.com/shorts/mHF77a-Ivgc?si=bS088Dv3832JvGO6

    • 215k miles
    • oil change every 5k miles
    • exhaust leaks checked (seafoam through brake booster) - no smoke observed.
    • 2003 Tacoma Dbl cab 4WD
    • No codes or ruff idols
    • My auto stethoscope couln't pinpoint the issue. I took note of what the EVAP sounds like, this tapping sounds different.
    • the ticking goes away after revving, and doesn't exist on cold startup. Its more pronunced when I'm in D or R.

Now that I've seafoamed, the Taco runs better, but now the ticking is loud enough to hear at idle! I've put a massive amount of sound deadender and heat abatement material so its literally the only thing I hear now.

No other engine issues, just this louder ticking now.

What do ya'll think, and any suggestions are appreciated!

Sounds pretty normal to me. Maybe check your valve lash?

After posting this and driving back home from the garage the noise went away, and I barely heard it at idle on my 35 min morning commute a few hours ago.

Valve lash checking means opening up the valve covers right? I think once I find another reason to open up the covers (cover leaks, heater bypass leaks), I'll dive in and check the clearances.

    thx!
