    Hey everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster. I thought I would start my post history off nice and easy with a question that has already been asked a million times.

    Which tires should I get?

A little about me: I have a 2019 Off Road with the stock Goodyear Wrangler Adventures. I really like the look and size of the stock Off Road wheels and tires, it is one of the main reasons I chose this trim level, so I would like to keep my new tires the same size, and find something with a similar style. I don't want to stick with the Wranglers because even though I think they look good I haven't been impressed with their performance. They are pretty sketchy in snow/ice, and they seem almost spent at 35,000 miles.

I live in Minnesota, so snow and ice performance is important to me. I know snow tires are great (they're like using a cheat code while driving during winter), but I don't want to have 2 sets of tires, so I'm looking for an all season that is biased towards winter. If that's a thing. I would like to try one of those fancy 3 peak mountain snowflake tires if I could.

I've spent many nights reading through the endless tacomaworld and reddit posts about tires, there are a couple that have been mentioned quite a bit and seem to check all of my boxes. So, if you all had to choose, which would you go with:

Falken Wildpeak A/T3W or Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT?

I've also seen the BFGoodrich - Trail-Terrain T/A is available at Costco and it also has a 3 peak mountain snowflake thingy, but I haven't been able to find any reviews or feedback about them. I'd love to hear what you think about them if you have them.

Thanks for reading this far, and I appreciate any feedback you all might have!

It’s because what you actually have are street tires that most people ditch. Get the wildpeaks.

Lots of good tires out there and I recently like you studied it to death. In the end I went with the Falken wildpeake AT3w. They ride really good but I can't give you any input on snow as I have not been through a winter with them yet, I am sure others can vouch for them from that aspect. Best of luck !

Yes, my wildpeaks have been great.

I wasn’t a believer when they first came out, but I’m definitely buying the same set again.

I've taken the wildpeaks through occasional snow and ice, and once over muddy-slush. They did surprisingly well every time.

I don't know anything about the trail terrains or ultra terrains, so can't compare.

Nothing compares to a dedicate winter tire, which you already know.

A 3PMSF tires does not have the softer rubber compound or the amount of sipes a dedicated winter tire. You will be less safe driving without dedicated winter tires in your winter conditions.

3 peak all terrains are usually only good on ice for the first 2 years, and I can confirm this.

People always reference snow performance, but ice is way more critical.

I would recommend the wildpeaks, but always suggest a dedicated snow set.

Right now I'm running a cheap 10 ply all terrain and a dedicated snow set. And I'm way happier than when I had the 4 season all terrains.

I have Toyo Open Country AT III's, they have the 3 peaks. I still will only ever use them for 3 seasons... there is no replacement for a true dedicated winter tire. Also despite the advertising, there is no such thing as a true all-season, there is too much compromise for one or more of the seasons... For the winter I run Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV's.

Another vote for the Wildpeaks. Had them a year now. Great in the snow and thru water puddles...

there’s a reason they come oem on several Jeeps. I think the WP have surpassed the K02 as the standard AT, especially given it’s snow peak rating. I ran them on my 4R will great results, in a multitude of terrains. Ymmv

You’re correct, dedicated winter tires are the best option, I won’t argue with that. I was just wondering what people who are running some of these newer “all-weather” tires thought about them.

A lot of love for wildpeaks here. They’re definitely my top choice. A coworker of mine has a set and says he’ll never get anything else again.

I was curious about the Goodyear option, it looks like it’s a discount tire exclusive, has anyone every tried both and liked one over the other?

And I can’t find anything about those Costco tires, so, even though I like to buy everything for my life at Costco, I might have to go to discount for my new tires.

Any 3pmsf rated tire will suit your needs. Really depends on what you are wanting out of the tire. Smooth/quiet ride, aggressive looks, more aggressive tread design, tread life, ect.

I had Wildpeaks previously and now have the BFG Trail Terrain TA. Honestly, the Wildpeaks look more aggressive but the Trail Terrains seem to perform better. Granted, I haven’t tried snow yet, but they perform better on dirt, highway and slick roads. Trail Terrains are 3 peak rated for snow performance.

I would advise against wild peaks. They are good tires but way overpriced atm

    This.

At one point they were one of the least expensive options. Everyone was impressed at how good they were "for the money". But now they are one of the most expensive options. They ain't bad, but they do have a reputation for spotty QC and some are impossible to get balanced. I have the Goodyear Ultra Terrans on my Tacoma and highly recommend them. I also have Toyo AT2's on my 4X4 F150. Those are a less aggressive, quieter, smoother riding tire. But I have proven to be capable enough for what I do off road.
