After reading several of the other threads about the TRD intake I pulled the trigger and ordered one myself. $355.68 Shipped. I will include a before and after. I was averaging 20.2mpg per tank before and I’m guessing it really won’t change. If it goes up or down significantly I will post to this later. Took about half an hour taking my time so I didn’t break any of th re used parts. I really don’t expect to see a difference in the performance of the truck but if I do I will share it. Actually putting my hands on one has really helped me understand more than just reading about it has. At the end of the day is a couple new parts that pretty much accomplish the same thing as the stock intake. I do not feel it is worth $350 as of right now after installing but I haven’t even driven with it on yet. I am extremely skeptical but all of your opinions and thoughts made it so I had to find out for myself. I’ll add details of my experience later for you guys.

So the truck came with a CAI and you replaced it with Another one?, just want to make sure I understood it...

We used to be able to flip the air cleaner cover upside down on stock air cleaner intakes for carbs . This gave the same result .
The BaaWAAAAAAA under excelleration kicking in the secondaries was, if nothing else , a big feeling of more power from a V8 , and it was free ! Maybe just cutting the top off of the stock Tacoma filter housing cover would work the same ?

I think the main reason most do it is for the noise anyway . I for one think no matter what is done it is a 6 cylinder and will sound best when as quiet as possible .
Edit , noise and illusion of more power .

So far I do not recommend this product if you are looking for any type of measurable result what so ever. I can’t even tell much of a change in sound really. I guess it will look cool when I open the hood to change the oil every 5 or 10 thousand miles. I’d say it’s a neutral product. Kinda like wearing crazy socks. No one really sees it but I guess I feel good about having it.

The peak hp may be the same but I m convinced it gets there quicker.
I know it improves performance and does sound good. I never get tired of stomping on the gas and hearing the growl all the way to redline everyday
Money well spent in my opinion

The start and stop points were the same, I was off on my turn around point by a little bit. The temp, wind and traffic were comparable. As scientific as I could get on the same day& route on open highways. Just a wee bit of improvement on the mpg. Is it worth it? I don’t know & I don’t care, but it looks good & works for me.

I was thinking about getting it when I order my truck....now I'm feeling skeptical.
Has anybody used these with a snorkel???
I would love to hear some feed back, maybe that'll make up my mind.

    Thanks for the detail OP!

These TRD trucks should have the dam TRD products on them, I guess we are paying for a sticker and Toyota is not the company it use to be.

Factory stuff so far. Mud flaps, tow package, weather mats, bed mat.
What's the difference in the air cleaner element itself? Wire mesh vs paper?
    Is the TRD element cleanable?
Does it fit in the stock air box? If so has anyone observed any benefits from just changing elements?

Sounds like you have a case for a TW lemon law.

Not sure how far back your "used to be" comment goes. But my 2001 Tundra TRD was nothing more than bilstein shocks and bed stickers. I didn't even get that cheap-ass TRD blower.
